JOB SUMMARY:
The Cell Packaging Recycling Materials handler supports the ESS production Line by Handling, sorting and preparing battery cell packaging material for recycling. This role is responsible for safely removing packaging from cells, separating usable and non-usable materials and ensuring all recyclable items are placed in the correct collection areas. The Cell Packaging Recycling Materials handler follows standardized work instructions, supports general material movement and maintains a clean and safe work environment to meet daily production and recycling targets.
ESSENTIAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receive and sort materials coming from ESS cell and module teardown.
- Separate usable, recyclable, and scrap materials following safety and quality guidelines.
- Place materials in correct bins, racks, or lanes for reuse, recycling, or disposal.
- Prepare usable components for return to production or storage areas.
- Scans Boxes/Pallets at Drop zone when Hi-lo driver brings them
- Handle scrap materials safely, including damaged cells or contaminated packaging.
- Label and organize materials to maintain clear separation between categories.
- Support physical inventory by providing accurate information to leads or supervisors.
- Support to Material Specialist / Drop Zone Activities
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area to ensure good material flow.
- Follow all EHS requirements, including PPE and safety rules for battery handling.
- Other Tasks as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
- Working Experience in materials / logistics areas
- Cycle count experience is preferred
- Working Level Knowledge of:
- Materials and logistics
- Highly Organized and Detail Oriented.
- Ability to stand, walk, carry light objects, handle parts, reach with hands and arms, lift, push, and pull materials up to 40–50 lbs regularly.
- Ability to Multi-task and work with minimum supervision
- Ability to work overtime as business needs dictate.
- Ability to travel between manufacturing facilities as required.
- Prior experience in warehouse, recycling, teardown, or material handling preferred.
- Ability to stand and walk for 8–12 hours per shift.
- Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and handling of materials.
- Ability to work in areas with moving equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks).
- Flexible and capable of adapting to change with the ability to follow work instructions.
- Basic knowledge of material identification (good, scrap, recyclable).
- Ability to safely handle battery components and packaging materials.
- Strong attention to detail to prevent mix-ups or contamination.
- Ability to communicate issues clearly to team leads or supervisors.
- Basic understanding of safety requirements (PPE, chemical safety, lifting safety).

- Assist with the preparation of risk assessments
- Before commencing work or research, a risk assessment should be conducted to identify, assess and control the hazards associated with the work or research. This should be conducted in conjunction with other relevant staff, researchers and the supervisor
- Report OH&S problems
- Report workplace hazards to the supervisor as soon as possible after they occur
- Report injury or illness arising from workplace activities using the incident/injury reporting system as soon as possible after the incident
- Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions
- Complete monthly H&S inspections
