Senior Buyer

SAM Medical
Tualatin, OR Full Time
POSTED ON 10/20/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 4/17/2027
About the role

SAM Medical is seeking an experienced Senior Buyer to lead purchasing and sourcing activities that keep materials available, inventory at healthy levels, and suppliers aligned with our quality and delivery needs. This is a hands-on role for a highly analytical, self-motivated professional with considerable experience in purchasing, strategic sourcing, and supplier management.

The Senior Buyer will manage supplier relationships, negotiate commercial terms, identify and qualify new sources, and use data to guide purchasing decisions. Experience in the medical device industry is a strong plus, particularly in a regulated manufacturing environment.

What you’ll do
  • Plan and purchase raw materials, components, and supplies to meet current production requirements and anticipated demand.
  • Analyze purchasing, inventory, lead-time, and usage data to make sound buying decisions and support reliable material availability.
  • Develop and maintain inventory controls, including Kanban systems and inventory planning tools.
  • Monitor raw-material and finished-goods inventory to support production while avoiding excess stock and obsolescence.
  • Source, evaluate, and qualify new suppliers; develop alternate sources for key materials to improve continuity and reduce supply risk.
  • Negotiate pricing, lead times, payment terms, and other commercial conditions to achieve competitive total cost and dependable service.
  • Build productive relationships with existing suppliers and respond promptly to supplier issues and opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate purchase orders, supplier records, product specifications, and related purchasing documentation.
  • Work closely with Production, Planning, Quality, and Regulatory teams to resolve supply issues and support compliant operations.
  • Support compliance with applicable quality-system and regulatory requirements, including ISO 13485 and FDA regulations, in partnership with Quality and Regulatory Affairs.
  • Visit suppliers and attend trade shows or industry events as needed to assess capabilities, build relationships, and identify sourcing opportunities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in purchasing, inventory management, and supplier performance.
What success looks like
  • Materials are available to support production, with minimal disruption or stockouts.
  • Inventory levels are right-sized and aligned with business needs.
  • Supplier performance, sourcing coverage, and continuity improve over time.
  • Purchasing decisions reflect clear analysis of cost, demand, lead time, quality, and risk.
  • Supplier and purchasing records are accurate, current, and support applicable quality requirements.
What you’ll bring
  • Significant, progressively responsible experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain, with substantial hands-on sourcing and supplier-management experience.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret purchasing, inventory, and supplier data.
  • A self-directed work style, sound judgment, and the ability to manage priorities with limited day-to-day supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating with suppliers and improving cost, service, or supply continuity.
  • Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and inventory-planning methods.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Clear, professional communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement are a plus.

Experience in the medical device industry is a strong plus. Familiarity with regulated manufacturing, ISO 13485 quality systems, or FDA requirements is especially valuable.

Work environment
  • This is a full-time position on-site. Supplier visits and other business travel may be required as needed.
