CONTRACT TYPE: Semester based.
Job Description: The Department of English, Communications and Media seeks eligible student-centered adjunct instructors to teach undergraduate courses in Literature, Creative Writing, and/or courses in our first-year writing program. Possible course assignments include British Literature (various periods), Literary Nonfiction, Intro to Creative Writing, College Writing & Research; other courses may become available. Appointments are made on a semester-by-semester basis (fall/spring) with hiring decisions made in late spring/early summer for the fall semester and early fall for the spring semester. Adjuncts may be eligible to teach up to 2 courses per semester.
Expectations:
- Prepare and teach in-person, on-campus sessions weekly for up to 25 students, following a course syllabus submitted at the start of the semester to the department chair.
- Develop engaging assignments, implement active learning strategies, and utilize process-based pedagogy in writing classrooms.
- Grade and return student assignments in a timely manner, providing meaningful feedback to help students develop as readers, writers and thinkers.
- Post syllabus, assignments and other course information to our Learning Management System, Canvas. (Technical assistance is available.)
- Work collaboratively with department faculty to meet departmental learning outcomes and University-wide Core Learning Outcomes.
- Use Salve email (i.e., @salve.edu) to send and receive official email correspondence with students, staff, and administrators.
- Hold weekly office hours.
Job Requirements:
Required:
- A master's degree in English, literature, rhetoric, composition or a closely related field is required.
Preferred:
- Candidates with undergraduate teaching experience strongly preferred.
