Vice President of Consumer Lending

The VP of Consumer Lending is responsible for strategic leadership and oversight of all lending operations, including consumer, indirect, and e‑channel lending; underwriting; loan processing and funding; loan servicing; dealer relationship management; loan quality control; compliance; and the consumer loan origination system. This role ensures lending production quality, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and exceptional member experience across all origination channels; branch, online, phone, indirect, and digital/e‑commerce. The VP of Consumer Lending uses analytics, market insight, technology, and strategic planning to drive portfolio performance and achieve organizational lending goals.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Lending Oversight & Underwriting Leadership
- Oversee all consumer and indirect underwriting activity, ensuring consistency with policies, regulations, ALCO credit risk tolerances, and internal controls.
- Lead direct and indirect underwriting teams, provide coaching, and use reporting/analytics to identify trends and opportunities for improved decisioning and sales support.
Lending Operations, Processing & Funding Management
- Direct the daily operations of Consumer Lending: Direct loan processing & funding
- Indirect loan processing & funding
- e‑Channel loan production, cross‑sales, and ancillary sales
- Consumer loan servicing
- Vehicle titles
- Loan quality control
- Consumer Loan Origination System
- Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant documentation, decisioning, and funding for all
- Consumer Lending channels.
- Develop lending policies, procedures, and operational standards.
Strategy, Portfolio Management & Budgeting
- Set strategic lending goals aligned with the credit union's overall business plan.
- Monitor economic trends impacting portfolio performance and recommend proactive adjustments.
- Develop and manage the department's annual budget.
Dealer Relationship Management & Channel Development
- Oversee the Dealer Relationship Manager function and maintain strong indirect lending partnerships.
- Identify channel performance opportunities and work with internal/external partners to maximize production and service.
Product Development & Competitive Positioning
- Research and evaluate new lending products and services.
- Develop expansion strategies for lending programs and channels.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of market rates, terms, and trends to ensure competitive positioning.
Reporting, Analytics & Quality Control
- Create and maintain reporting tools to monitor underwriting adherence, operational performance, and portfolio trends.
- Lead loan quality control initiatives to ensure data accuracy, regulatory alignment, and early identification of risk.
- Lead internal and external audit/exam requests for Consumer Lending
Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
Knowledge and Skills
Experience
- Eight years to 10 years of similar or related experience, including preparatory experience.
Education/Certifications/Licenses
- College Degree

- The ability to motivate or influence internal or external senior level professionals is a critical part of the job, requiring a significant level of influence and trust.
- Obtaining cooperation and agreement on important outcomes via frequently complex, senior level dialogues, as well as a professional level of written communication skills are essential to the position.
