Responsibilities
- Assist the oral surgeon during procedures including extractions, implant placement, bone grafting, and biopsies
- Prepare the treatment room, surgical trays, instruments, and anesthesia equipment
- Monitor patients during surgery while maintaining sterile technique
- Take and process panoramic, periapical, and 3D cone beam CT images as needed
- Provide detailed post operative instructions to patients and caregivers
- Sterilize instruments and maintain an OSHA compliant surgical environment
- Accurately record patient medical histories and surgical documentation
- Manage surgical supply inventory and ordering
- Assist with sedation monitoring (nitrous and IV) per office protocol and state guidelines
Qualifications
- Active license/registration to practice as a dental assistant, as required by your state
- 6 months of experience as a dental assistant, preferably in oral surgery
- Proficient in surgical assisting techniques and infection control protocols
- Comfortable taking high quality radiographs and CBCT scans
- Able to anticipate procedural needs and remain calm under pressure
- Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and patient rapport
- Reliable, punctual, detail oriented, and a strong team player
- Dental Assistant certification or registration as required by state law
- Current BLS certification; nitrous oxide/sedation certification a plus
