River People Health Center is seeking dedicated individuals to support Primary Care delivery by managing clinical clerical processes and ensuring consistent, quality care for our patients. In this role, you will act as a vital link between providers, patients, and specialists within the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC).
Who are we?
The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC) is a sovereign tribe located in the metropolitan Phoenix area. Bounded by the cities of Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa and Fountain Hills, the Community serves over 9,000 tribal members, and all people conduct business over approximately 96 square miles of residential, agricultural and commercial lands, as a full-service government entity.
What does the job look like?
On a typical day, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to navigate the complexities of medical referrals. Your key responsibilities include:
- Patient Advocacy: Serve as the primary point of contact for patients and families, helping them navigate the referral process and communicating their requests to the Care Team.
- Clinical Coordination: Coordinate specialist consultations, diagnostic studies, and medical equipment orders by accurately processing records and faxes.
- Insurance & Authorization: Contact insurance companies to verify benefits and obtain necessary authorizations to prevent claim denials.
- Tracking & Follow-up: Maintain meticulous documentation and investigate missing or outstanding specialist appointments to close the referral loop.
- Collaboration: Establish strong working relationships with specialty offices and community resource organizations to facilitate mutual care goals.

What you need:
Referral Coordinator I (Min $46,263 – Mid $53,205 – Max $60,146): High School Diploma or GED. Experience in healthcare, customer service, or administrative support preferred.
Referral Coordinator II (Min $51,005 – Mid $59,294 – Max $67,582): One year of Medical Support Assistant experience OR Referral Coordinator experience required. Experience in referral coordination or healthcare coordination. Demonstrated ability to manage moderately complex referrals independently.
Referral Coordinator III (Min $56,316 – Mid $65,466 – Max $74,616): Minimum of two (2) years of referral coordination experience. One (1) year of MSA experience may substitute for one (1) year of referral coordination experience. PACS (Prior Authorization Certified Specialist) or SHIP certification required.
This position is subject to working hours outside of the normal workweek, including nights, weekends and holidays.
