The Sallie Mae Internship program seeks to attract and develop exceptional early talent while adding value to our organization. Our goal is to tie academic learning into a practical business setting while fostering professional and personal growth within a student’s area of focus. Over the course of the semester, interns will gain exposure to senior leaders, attend meetings, work alongside mentors, and receive valuable performance feedback.
Position Summary
Sallie Mae, the nation’s leading provider of private student loans, seeks a motivated and responsible Digital Marketing Intern to assist in executing paid digital marketing campaigns and strategies. As a Digital Marketing Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in the day-to-day operations of our performance marketing paid media team, including creating paid search campaigns, paid social advertising, display advertising campaigns and measuring their impact. You’ll gain hands-on experience in pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, keyword and competitive research, ad planning and bid management. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for college upperclassmen interested in developing a career in digital marketing.
Key Responsibilities
Campaign Management: Support the setup, optimization, and ongoing management of paid search, display, video, and paid social campaigns across varying digital advertising platforms.
Paid Advertising Support: Assist in managing campaigns on Google Ads, Microsoft Ads, Meta Ads, Amazon Ads and LinkedIn Ads.
Keyword Research: Identify relevant keywords for campaigns through research and analysis.
Competitive Research: Research on competitor advertising strategies and share findings to improve current campaigns.
Campaign Measurement: Track the performance of paid search campaigns through key metrics such as CTR (Click-Through Rate), CPC (Cost Per Click), CPA (Cost Per Acquisition), and conversion rates.
A/B Testing: Help run A/B tests for ad creatives, bid methodology, landing pages, and other campaign elements to improve performance.
Reporting: Assist in preparing regular reports to provide insights into campaign performance, trends, and opportunities for optimization.
Bid Management: Monitor and adjust bids and budgets for paid media campaigns to maximize ROI.
Paid Advertising Support: Assist in managing paid ad campaigns on platforms like Google Ads, Facebook Ads, and LinkedIn Ads.
Collaboration: Work closely with the marketing team to brainstorm, plan, and execute campaigns that align with the company’s goals.

Education
- Currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a degree in Marketing or Advertising.
- Open to undergraduate level students with expected graduation dates of Dec 2026 - May 2027.
- This is a 12-week internship and expectations for a 40 hour work week with a start date of 6/8/26.
- We follow a flexible 3-day in-office policy and open to working out of our Newark, DE office.
- Previous internship experience in technology preferred.
- Basic Excel skills (sorting, filters, pivot tables).
- Adaptability and openness to learning.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
