DESCRIPTION:
Salisbury Christian School is seeking a creative, organized, and relational individual to foster a love of reading across our elementary grade levels! A successful candidate must hold a degree in elementary education; a master's degree in the area of reading or library science strongly preferred, along with prior teaching and/or library experience. The position includes oversight of library services and instruction for students in Pre-K through 5th Grade. Applicants should be prepared to articulate an active faith in Jesus Christ and demonstrate the ability to engage elementary students in high quality instructional practices in the area of literacy.
JOB PURPOSE:
The Lower School Library Coordinator is committed to the mission of Salisbury Christian School and to the students and families we serve. This role oversees the daily operations of the Lower School library and associated programs for students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5, supporting the academic, spiritual, and emotional growth of students with a particular emphasis on literacy development and reading intervention.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
- Maintain the physical environment of the Bruce Library and/or Ruth White Media Center including both print and digital material inventory, furnishings, etc. to be well organized, clean, inviting, and conducive to student learning;
- Oversee the purchase and maintenance of print and digital materials, including all database subscriptions, ensuring that all library content is aligned to the mission, vision, and values of Salisbury Christian School;
- Plan and teach Lower School library classes as assigned to further literacy development for all students;
- Implement a variety of programs and activities that foster a love of reading for students and staff, with principles S.T.E.A.M. education incorporated as appropriate;
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to support curricular goals with appropriate resources;
- Provide professional development for faculty and staff regarding library services available;
- Coordinate the annual Book Fair(s);
- Plan for and implement instructional intervention for Lower School students through one-on-one/small group instruction;
- Work in cooperation with the Upper School Library Coordinator, Principals, and Director of Business Operations to establish and monitor the annual libraries budget, ensuring departmental expenditures remain within the allocated fiscal year appropriation;
- Embrace and reflect the mission, vision, and foundational beliefs of SCS in all communications and conduct, representing the school professionally to its constituency and the general public;
- Cultivate meaningful relationships with students, staff, and families, motivating students to accept God’s gift of salvation and helping them grow in their faith;
- Demonstrate initiative, a strong work ethic, and consistent follow-through on all projects;
- Keep the Administration informed of any known serious issues that may impact the school;
- Address conflict with students, parents, staff, and Administration respectfully and privately, according to the Matthew 18 principle;
- Know and follow all procedures for emergency situations, exercising sound judgement.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
- Supervise extracurricular activities, organizations, and outings as assigned;
- Utilize educational opportunities and evaluation processes for professional growth;
- Provide input and constructive recommendations for administrative and managerial functions in the school;
- Support the broader program of the school by attending extracurricular activities when possible;
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Administration.

- Be in whole-hearted agreement with Salisbury Christian School’s Foundational documents;

- Be a member in good standing at an evangelical church that has a Statement of Faith in agreement with the SCS Statement of Faith;

3-5 years of elementary teaching and/or library experience.
EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field required;
- Master’s degree in reading or library science highly preferred.
- Sit and stand for extended periods of time;
- Lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds;
- Frequently move about inside campus buildings and outside on the grounds;
- Exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer;
- Possess close vision, distance vision, and depth perception;
- See and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids;
- Stand, reach, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl;
- Hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels;
- Speak in audible tones so as to be understood clearly in normal classrooms.
