Salary Information
Starting wage is: \$27.82/hr
\$29.24/hr for Certified Law Enforcement Officers
\$30.66/hr for Certified Law Enforcement Officers with 5 years of
experience.
\$1.00 shift differential for shifts beginning at 5PM or after.
General Information
Due to the nature of positions in the Sheriff\'s Office, the selection
process is fairly extensive. An applicant may
be screened out at any step. Please keep in mind that no job offer will
be made until all of the selection steps
Have Been Completed Satisfactorily. The Steps Are
Records checks - Criminal
An on-line entry level Deputy Sheriff Test.
Tour of Jail facility.
Board interview. The board generally consists of three members. Each
applicant is asked a
standard list of questions.
Interview with the Sheriff.
Background investigation.
Police Profile Psychological Test. The testing takes approximately 3-4
hours to complete. You will
be notified of the scheduled date and time if you qualify for police
profile testing.
Post-offer Physical Capacity Profile Test, vision exam and drug screen.
All job offers are
contingent upon passing a strength test, vision exam and contingent upon
testing drug free.
Job Duties Include
Under the supervision of the appropriate Division Staff as determined by
current job assignment, Deputies will
investigate incidents to enforce law and order and protect life and
property. Work varies requiring individual
judgment following policy, statutes, prescribed standards and
procedures. May be assigned to Patrol, Civil
Process Server, Warrant Officer, K-9 Patrol, Investigator, Narcotics
Investigator, School Resource Officer,
Prevention Officer, Drug Court, or Court Security Officer. Applicant
must be able to provide credible courtroom
testimony. Applicant must not have any criminal convictions (adult or
juvenile) including diversion agreements,
expunged convictions or sustained policy violations for any act of
dishonesty or racial bias.
Minimum Qualifications
1\. Must be 21 years of age at time of hire.
2\. Must have a High School diploma or the equivalent (College
preferred).
3\. Must have a valid Driver\'s License and be insurable under Saline
County fleet insurance policy. (If from
out-of-State must obtain a Kansas Driver\'s License within the required
90 days).
4\. Minimum College education of Associates Degree in related field
(preferred) or two (2) years of continuous
Law Enforcement experience as a certified Law Enforcement Officer.
(preferred)
5\. Must be able to obtain Kansas Law enforcement certification within
one (1) year of being hired.
6\. No felony or domestic violence convictions including diversions and
expungements.
7\. Serious misdemeanor convictions will be evaluated including
diversions and expungements.
8\. Must be a United States Citizen pursuant to K.S.A. 74-5605.Minimum
College education of Associates
Degree in related field (preferred) or two (2) years of continuous Law
Enforcement experience as a certified
Law Enforcement Officer. (preferred)
9\. Must be able to obtain Kansas Law enforcement certification within
one (1) year of being hired.
Physical Requirements
Determined Work Level: Level 4 Heavy Work The applicant must attain a
3.5 score or above score on their
physical capacity profile. Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force
occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force
frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly. Ability to
communicate ideas by means of the spoken
word. Must be able to give directions and greet people at the count er
and on the phone. Job performance and/or
safety of self and others demands being able to see clearly 20 feet or
more. Must be physically able to subdue
prisoners or inmates. Ability to maintain balance to prevent falling
when walking, standing, crouching or running.
Must be able to pursue inmates when necessary.

Former military personnel or their spouse that have been verified as a
veteran under K.S.A. 73-201 will receive
an interview if they meet the minimum qualifications of the position and
successfully pass any required pre-
employment testing or any requirements such as licensing. The veterans\'
