Department: Nursing Administration The Director, Clinical Operations (DCO) reports to the Chief Nursing Officer. The DCO works as a member of a self-directed leadership team, which is committed to a common purpose and goals that align with the Hospital Strategic Plan, Pillars of Excellence and STAR Values. The DCO is responsible for forecasting, planning, and managing resource requirements, and collaborates with all department directors to ensure resources are allocated/used in a manner that optimizes the hospital’s performance according to the strategic plan. The DCO may also have collateral responsibility for patient care services and for the hospital’s short-term and /or long-term projects/programs. The DCO contributes to positive outcomes and to meeting the cultural expectations of the organization by exhibiting professional behavior. The DCO serves as a resource and role model to all members of the healthcare team and the community we serve. The DCO will provide operational and project leadership for clinical workforce forecasting and planning for SVMH while seeking new staffing models to drive efficiencies. The DCO will guide the deployment of ongoing development and integrated demand-oriented management systems and process, which takes into consideration the needs of the patient, staff and organization objectives. The DCO performs other duties as assigned. Promotes patient, physician, staff, and customer satisfaction by exhibiting & sustaining accountability of SVMHS’s STAR values. Provides oversight to Administrative Supervision, Staffing Office, Patient Care Resources, Transport and Interpreter Services. Supports the development of larger initiatives and methodologies to address the current challenges facing service lines, departments and or units related to the provision of workforce management and labor productivity. Identifies, evaluates and creates a plan for testing, validating and integrating new staffing models into clinical practice. In collaboration with the CNO, provides leadership of nursing divisions operational budgets. Identifies and leads the implementation of sustainable solutions to improve patient flow, patient access efficiency, clinical outcomes and patient experience. Oversees the development of workflows, processes, policies, standards and an accountability structure to create and sustain real-time workforce management processes. These include scheduling, time and attendance, competency assignments and productivity. Acquires and analyzes data to develop changes in processes/practices in order to optimize value (cost and quality) of services provided. Defines and monitors key measures of performance, assesses the effectiveness of process/practice. Provides education and mentoring on resource planning, scheduling, management, and other areas of expertise. Provides proactive engagement for efforts related to sustainment of the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet Recognition®. Provides leadership & oversight of nursing level projects, initiatives and meetings. Facilitates & develops leaders in change management processes. Collaborates with all organizational departments to proactively develop data-driven recommendations for best practice and/or resource use for the hospital using the Evidence Base Practice model of research. Mentors others to develop and increase the competence of the leadership team and staff. Participates and promotes concepts of the Magnet Journey. Model Magnet principles to continuously elevate patient care at Salinas Valley Health in collaboration with the Nursing Service Departments. Applies principles established for in the Leader Accountability Grid attached. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned. Education: A degree from an accredited School of Nursing, Bachelor Degree required. Master’s degree in Nursing or related field such as MBA, Healthcare Administration or Allied Health preferred. Licensure: Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license required. Certification: Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards required. Experience: Three (3) years’ experience in progressively responsible and directly related nursing leadership roles. Previous proven, successful leadership experience required. Demonstrates sufficient manual dexterity to operate office equipment, including printers, copiers and computer terminals with reasonable speed. Management Skills Budgetary preparation, monitoring and control Human Resources management Management and supervisory theories, principles, practices, techniques and methods Ability to identify and analyze complex perioperative, post sedation, endoscopic and ambulatory patient care issues (Nursing Directors) Interpersonal Skills: Communicate effectively both orally and in writing to diverse groups and individuals Work effectively with administration, employees and medical staff Identify and analyze complex departmental (and patient care) issues Make independent decisions and provide counsel and advice to administration, employees and medical staff Exercise good judgement and tact in providing leadership, guidance and assistance Pay Range: The hourly rate for this position is $97.09 - $121.35. The range displayed on this job posting reflects the target for new hire salaries for this position.
