Department: Financial Planning & Decision Support The Senior Financial Analyst will partner with Managed Care Contracting and is responsible for providing advanced analytics to meet the strategic financial goals in Salinas Valley Health’s payor contracts. This position interacts with internal and external parties regarding communication/questions about rates and terms, rate structure and development and reconciliation of contract provisions and disputes. This position will evaluate and develop hospital, physician and ambulatory rate proposals and is familiar with various reimbursement methodologies. The candidate should have strong analytical and critical thinking skills to analyze large data sets. This position develops, maintains and provides regular reporting on financial performance of the contracts for contract monitoring, budget and long-range planning, in support of revenue integrity efforts and for contract department performance and accountability review. Additionally, this position will develop “what if” modeling related to expected revenues associated with contract negotiations, including the assessment and evaluation of counter proposals from Health Plans and the impact to hospital financials. The Senior Analyst will function as the Master System User for the Axiom financial system, functioning as a system administrator that manages updates, writes high-level reports, and coordinates system development/fixes. It is also expected that the person in this position has a solid knowledge base in cost accounting and has the ability to become a user of the Salinas Valley Health cost accounting system (Strata). Provides information by assembling and summarizing data; preparing reports; making presentations of findings, analyses, and recommendations. Objectives include development and maintenance of financial reporting: Daily Census & Other Key Indicator Reporting, Financial Metrics and Reporting, Account Receivable Reporting Enhancement, Net Revenue Improvement Tools, Physicians Report Cards, Design of various Decision Support Analytics, and Labor Reports. Responsible for extensive evaluations, reconciliations, and interfacing of various financial and clinical systems including Workday, API Business Analytics, Navigator, and the Axiom Financial System. Improves financial and operational status by analyzing results and variances; identifying trends; recommending actions. Serves as the Master System User for the Axiom Financial System (Kaufman Hall) Develops and designs various budgeting management tools. Prepares and supports the development of the annual operating and capital budget. Uses high level critical thinking skills to create the data extracts from feeder systems. May assist in the maintenance of the Strata cost accounting system. Develops reports and/or extracts data from the Strata system for use in analysis. Prepares and develops profitability reports based on Cost Accounting tools. Prepares and develops tools for auditing vendor contracts and reporting on vendor spending/performance. Performs other duties as assigned in order to enhance the overall efficiency of the Hospital’s record processing and keeping functions including any or all confidential records associated with payroll and accounts payable, and any special projects as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned. Education: A Bachelor Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics or related major required. Licensure: None required. Experience: Three to five years minimum experience in healthcare, health insurance or other similar business that has provided the required experience and skills in finance, including cost accounting and preparation of complex annual operating and capital budgets. Experience working independently, managing competing priorities and taking ownership of projects is critical for success in this role. In addition, strong Excel skills (i.e., Pivot Tables, Macros, advanced Formulas, etc.) is a foundational requirement for being successful in the Senior Analyst position. The position requires the ability to quickly learn new systems and a high comfort level with independently extracting data from cost accounting, budget, and GL systems. Axiom or other budgeting systems experience is preferred. Pay Range: The hourly rate for this position is $46.80 - $56.80. The range displayed on this job posting reflects the target for new hire salaries for this position. For remote employees, pay will be adjusted based on the cost of living and market rates in the employee’s geographic location.
