CENTRALIZED PATIENT SCHEDULER

POSITION SUMMARY
This position provides centralized scheduling of outpatient services as well as some inpatient services utilizing the process of diagnosis, appropriate planning and education according to professional standards, state regulations and in keeping with the health center’s mission. The position is responsible for the scheduling of outpatient services. This is done by coordinating/scheduling all services ordered from the physicians with the appropriate departments using the scheduling software, entering insurance information and transcribing/scanning physician orders as needed. Centralized Patient Scheduling schedules for patients of all ages.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

QUALITY
Accurately schedules inpatients and outpatients for the health center using the best use of resources for the areas that they schedule.
Performs medical necessity screening for the Medicare patients that are scheduled.
Schedules using National Patient Safety Standards by obtaining two forms of identfication such as name, date of birth, and/or social security number to schedule patients.

ACCESS
Efficiently provides nursing units and ancillary departments with appropriate patient account and patient type to begin or continue care.
Schedules patients for multiple tests concurrently as possible for ease of access.

STEWARDSHIP
Accurately documents on order the correct test and diagnosis to maximize doing right test, right time to maximize resource.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM EDUCATION
Graduation from an accredited registerd nursing or licensed practical nursing program

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
None

REQUIRED REGISTRATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
Current Kansas RN or LPN license

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers up to 20 pounds
Primarily sedentary telephone and computer work
Occasional standing/walking
Manual dexterity and mobility
Near acuity: ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less

WORKING CONDITIONS
Subject to multiple employees in a close work space with numerous ringing phones
Subject to varying and unpredictable situations
Subject to many interruptions; pressure due to multiple calls, inquires, and/or deadlines
