Chief Engineer – Data Center Infrastructure & Critical Power Solutions

Location: Greater Pittsburgh Area (Onsite)

Compensation: Competitive Executive-Level Compensation Package (Target Base: $200,000–$300,000 , Depending on Experience)

About the Opportunity

A leading global provider of mission-critical infrastructure solutions is seeking a Chief Engineer to drive the development of next-generation power and cooling technologies supporting hyperscale, AI, colocation, and enterprise data centers.

This is a rare opportunity to serve as the senior technical authority for a rapidly growing business focused on the future of data center infrastructure. The successful candidate will help define strategy, guide innovation, and shape integrated solutions spanning the entire data center ecosystem—from utility interconnection and power distribution to advanced cooling technologies and high-density compute environments.

Position Overview

The Chief Engineer will provide technical leadership for the development of end-to-end data center infrastructure solutions, bringing a holistic "chip-to-grid" perspective that connects electrical, mechanical, thermal, and operational considerations into a unified architecture.

This role requires a highly experienced engineer who understands how modern data centers are designed, operated, and scaled, and who can collaborate directly with hyperscale customers, executive leadership, engineering teams, manufacturing organizations, and strategic partners.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Strategy & Innovation

  • Lead the technical vision and long-term roadmap for data center power and cooling solutions.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends related to AI infrastructure, high-density computing, and advanced cooling systems.
  • Drive innovation initiatives supporting next-generation data center architectures.

Integrated Infrastructure Architecture

  • Develop and optimize end-to-end electrical and thermal infrastructure solutions.
  • Ensure interoperability across power distribution, UPS systems, cooling technologies, liquid cooling systems, CDUs, and related infrastructure.
  • Support the creation of scalable architectures for hyperscale and enterprise customers.

Product Development Leadership

  • Lead feasibility studies, technical evaluations, and new product development initiatives.
  • Establish engineering best practices for design, validation, testing, and performance.
  • Provide technical oversight throughout the product lifecycle.

Customer & Industry Engagement

  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor during customer engagements and strategic discussions.
  • Partner with hyperscale operators, colocation providers, and enterprise customers to understand evolving requirements.
  • Represent the organization within industry groups, standards organizations, and technical forums.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Mentor engineering teams and provide guidance across multiple disciplines.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, service, quality, supply chain, and business leadership teams.
  • Support resolution of complex field, quality, and operational issues.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • 15 years of experience supporting the design, development, manufacturing, integration, or operation of data center infrastructure solutions.
  • Deep expertise in large-scale enterprise or hyperscale data center environments.
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Electrical distribution systems
  • UPS technologies
  • Data center power architectures
  • Thermal management systems
  • Liquid cooling technologies
  • Integrated infrastructure design

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting AI infrastructure or high-density compute environments.
  • Direct exposure to hyperscale data center operations.
  • Experience leading large-scale technical initiatives and cross-functional engineering organizations.
  • Strong customer-facing experience with executive-level stakeholders.
  • Participation in industry standards organizations or technical working groups.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a recognized technical leader with a comprehensive understanding of how modern data centers operate—from the utility connection through the rack-level power and cooling environment.

Candidates may come from:

  • Hyperscale cloud providers
  • Colocation data center operators
  • Critical power and cooling equipment manufacturers
  • Data center infrastructure solution providers
  • Engineering organizations focused on mission-critical facilities

This role is particularly attractive for engineers who enjoy influencing product strategy, solving complex infrastructure challenges, and helping shape the future of AI-ready data center environments.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Executive-level technical leadership position.
  • Opportunity to influence next-generation AI and hyperscale infrastructure.
  • High visibility with executive leadership and strategic customers.
  • Ability to shape products, architecture, and long-term technology direction.
  • Work at the intersection of power systems, cooling technologies, and advanced computing infrastructure.

This is a unique opportunity for a senior engineering leader to drive innovation in one of the fastest-growing sectors of critical infrastructure technology.
