This role supports our folding carton and label offering, which is growing rapidly due to our industry leading production times, premium print effects, and expertise in design (structural and graphic). Our locations in the Southeast are surrounded by fast-growing economies, which are manufacturing focused. We have limited competition from other folding carton companies in the area.
We are seeking entrepreneurial-minded individuals to join our packaging sales team, offering a special career opportunity with an outstanding compensation model based on profit sharing. Product examples include folding cartons, blister cards, inserts, hang tags, retail labels, and point-of-purchase signage with a variety of print effects.
Our Business Development Representative will have relevant technical skillsets to acquire, develop and manage successful enterprise relationships. The successful candidate will be part of our industry leading sales team where we surround our top brand client relationships with unmatched Responsiveness, Subject Matter Expertise, Innovation and Execution linking to their corporate objectives.

Responsibilities and Duties
-Create opportunities for new accounts through market research, networking, and cold calling within favorable market segments. Examples: confectionary, beverages, private labeling, natural / organic products, nutraceuticals, personal care, OTC medications, and more.
-Allocate at least 60% of time on new business development. Delegate appropriate account management tasks while retaining overall sales responsibility.
-Bring innovation and service enhancements to our organization as engaged industry subject matter experts. Our account leaders will have the ability to leverage Salem One resources, brand positioning and execution capabilities to acquire and strengthen revenue generating relationships.
-Add value in every client relationship through our Strategy > Execution > Results promise. This includes packaging optimization using in-house design services that elevate client brands and drive superior ROI for all stakeholders.
-Utilize our research platforms and in-person industry conferences and engagement opportunities to develop a personal and professional network that adds value to our enterprise development pipeline.
-Deliver presentations, plant tours, business reviews, marketing briefs and status calls including documented ownership of actions / projects.
-Develop industry knowledge depth and acumen through continuous education and training.
Essential Qualifications
- Must be located within a 3-hour drive of Charlotte, NC
- 4 years of industrial sales experience.
- Network of contacts from CPG companies, contract manufacturers, or co-packers that can be used to quickly build a sales pipeline.
Other / Desired Qualifications
- 2 years within the folding carton industry in sales, sales support, or operations.
- Experience in Packaging Sales, Marketing, Graphic Communications or related fields.
- Prior experience supporting the needs of brand owners (CPGs) and contract manufacturers.
- Excellent interpersonal engagement ability including exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to travel as needed.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Strong multi-tasking, technical and critical thinking skills.
- Understanding of basic financial and ROI concepts.
