Your Role With Us:

Salem Health's Infection Prevention Manager is responsible for the following functions:

  • Plans, develops, directs, implements, and evaluates the infection prevention program for Salem Health Hospitals & Clinics.
  • Conducts a multidisciplinary annual risk assessment and TB risk assessment, develops and evaluates annual Infection Prevention plan for the organization.
  • Ensures department goals are aligned with and enhance the hospital mission, values, and strategic goals.
  • Oversees the investigation, management, and surveillance of suspected and confirmed outbreaks or unusual infections or organisms.
  • Partners with public health and facility leadership to mitigate risks and establish controls.
  • Establishes standards for infection control and prevention utilizing current research and evidence-based practices, as articulated by SHEA, APIC, CDC, NHSN, and other infectious disease organizations.
  • Provides consultation and education to individuals and groups about prevention needs and problems.
  • Oversees the collection, analysis, and interpretation of infection control data, including surveillance data, NHSN reported data, and infection information used in facility dashboards. Works to improve processes to meet state, federal, and organizational reporting requirements while assuring accuracy of information. Assists in the identification of opportunities for improvement. Participates in improvement projects as a subject matter expert and recommends best practices to reduce hospital acquired infections and meet infection prevention standards and regulations. Uses Lean methodology (4 Step Problem Solving, Visual Management, Huddles, Leadership Rounding, and Lean Mental Models).
  • Provides consultation to Employee Health leadership and staff regarding infectious disease and prevention of infection transmission. Partners for patient follow-up when exposures occur.
  • Participates as a subject matter expert in Emergency Preparedness activities related to infectious disease outbreaks, pandemics, and high contagion situations.
  • Serves as a liaison to community and state health officials.
  • Provides oversight and education to healthcare team related to communicable disease reporting requirements and reports communicable diseases to appropriate agencies as required.
  • Assists in the development of educational programs related to infection prevention issues, including providing input into new employee orientation and annual competency education.
  • Assures completion of Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRAs) for construction and renovation projects. Monitors compliance with controls identified to prevent disease transmission. Participates in the design of new construction as an infection prevention subject-matter expert. Reviews and recommends environmental safety controls and patient care products to prevent the transmission of infections in the provision of care.
  • Develops, reviews, and revises department and facility infection prevention policies and standard work. Provides ongoing review and input to hospital policies and standard work related to infection prevention practices.
  • Supervises infection prevention staff. Implements actions to build trust and an engaged workforce to maintain a competent and motivated team.
  • Monitors financial activity of cost center and demonstrates fiscal responsibility through monitoring of financial status and making necessary adjustments to achieve organizational finance goals.

Background/Expertise:

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required
  • Master's Degree in Nursing preferred

Credentials:

  • Registered Nurse - Unencumbered Oregon RN license required
  • Certified in Infection Control - Must be obtained within 1 year of hire


Experience:

  • Two (2) years of infection prevention experience required
  • Management experience preferred
  • 3-5 years acute care experience preferred

Special knowledge, skills, & abilities:

  • Knowledge related to microbiology, epidemiology, and public health
  • Experience in Lean methodology, performance improvement
  • Ability to interact and influence members of the healthcare team at all levels
  • Project management, critical thinking, and team facilitation skills
  • Ability to use computer programs such as Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook
  • Ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects and set priorities
  • Knowledge related to surveillance and outbreak investigation
  • Must demonstrate ability to maintain confidentiality
