Position Overview
Salem Family Resources is seeking a compassionate, organized, and family-centered Director of Child & Family Services to lead and oversee all family-facing programming and supports. This position plays a critical role in creating welcoming, engaging spaces for children and caregivers while ensuring families have access to resources, education, and concrete supports that strengthen family stability.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Child & Family Services works closely with other program leaders and staff to develop, implement, and expand services that align with the agency’s mission, with a strong emphasis on early childhood, parenting support, and family engagement. The Director should have strong organizational and teamwork skills, and be comfortable balancing hands-on work with program oversight and development
Primary Responsibilities
Playgroups & Family Programming
- Oversee all playgroups, including content development, facilitation, and daily operations
- Lead and participate in running groups, hosting special events, and welcoming guest presenters and visitors
- Create inclusive, developmentally appropriate experiences that support children and caregivers
Family & Parent Engagement
- Develop and facilitate family engagement opportunities that strengthen parent-child relationships
- Plan and lead parent education workshops and support groups
- Build trusting relationships with families and serve as a consistent, welcoming presence on-site
Parent Advisory & Program Development
- Lead and support the Parent Advisory Committee
- Collaborate with families to identify needs, ideas, and opportunities for new programming
- Implement new activities and initiatives that expand parent education and support
Concrete Supports & Basic Needs
- Oversee the agency’s pantry and tangible support programs, including food, diapers, and supplies
- Assist families with access to pantry items and basic needs support
- Coordinate receiving, organizing, and distributing donations
- Be open to conducting home visits when appropriate to support families
Community Resources & Outreach
- Maintain strong knowledge of community resources and referral networks
- Support families in accessing local, regional, and state services
- Meet with families on-site and in the community as needed
Program Growth & Specialized Services
- Support program development in mission-aligned areas such as kinship caregiving, foster parent support, and other family-strengthening services
- Collaborate with leadership on identifying gaps and opportunities for new or expanded programming
Collaboration & Leadership
- Work as part of a leadership team with other directors to support agency-wide goals
- Assist with seasonal initiatives, special events, and agency-wide efforts
- Support implementation of new initiatives that advance the agency’s mission
- Other Duties as assigned by Executive Director
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of parenting, child development, and family systems
- Experience working directly with children and families, preferably in a community-based or family resource setting
- Familiarity with community resources and referral systems
- Ability to lead groups, build relationships, and support families with sensitivity and professionalism
- Ability to attend occasional evening or weekend meetings or community events
