Job Summary

The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is responsible for managing supplier quality performance and ensuring incoming materials meet company specifications and quality standards. This role works closely with suppliers and internal teams to investigate supplier-related issues, drive corrective actions, and support continuous improvement initiatives. The SQE also supports supplier audits, incoming inspection processes, and supplier performance monitoring to ensure product quality and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and validate reported internal supplier quality issues.
  • Determine root cause and supplier responsibility by reviewing drawings, specifications, and measurement results.
  • Notify suppliers of quality issues, initiate containment actions, update internal systems, and manage corrective action processes.
  • Support claim processes including RMA and MRB activities related to non-conforming supplier materials.
  • Create and maintain incoming quality inspection plans in SAP.
  • Supervise and support Incoming Quality Control (IQC) inspectors across multiple shifts.
  • Conduct virtual and on-site supplier audits as required.
  • Maintain supplier quality metrics and generate reports using data from internal systems.
  • Ensure accurate and timely communication with internal teams and suppliers regarding quality concerns and corrective actions.
  • Promote a Zero-Defect culture by applying quality tools such as SPC, 8D, 5-Why analysis, and Ishikawa diagrams.
  • Support cross-functional problem-solving efforts involving quality, engineering, and supply chain teams.
  • Prioritize tasks and manage supplier-related issues in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Travel domestically or internationally (up to approximately 20%) as required for supplier audits or quality investigations.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Experience using SAP Quality Management modules, including creating or modifying inspection characteristics and inspection plans.
  • Hands-on experience with measurement tools such as LCR meters, resistance meters, multimeters, Micro-Vu optical measurement systems, and calipers.
  • Strong data analysis skills, including the use of Excel pivot tables and charts.
  • Experience with root cause analysis and structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Experience conducting supplier quality process audits.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of experience driving process improvement initiatives using Lean methodologies.
  • Experience with quality tools including 5S, mistake-proofing (poka-yoke), structured problem-solving, and process capability analysis.
  • Experience with APQP and PPAP processes.
  • Experience using Net-Inspect or similar supplier quality management systems.

Industry Experience

  • Experience with electronics manufacturing or assembly environments.
  • Knowledge of SAP Quality Receiving Inspection modules.
  • Strong understanding of supplier quality management and manufacturing processes.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Work is performed in both office and manufacturing environments. The role may require interaction with production areas and supplier facilities. Travel may be required for supplier audits, quality investigations, or supplier development activities.
