Preschool Assistant Teacher (Pre-K)
About the Opportunity
Sakonnet Early Learning Center, a trusted early childhood education program serving Tiverton for over 40 years, is seeking a Pre-K Preschool Assistant Teacher to support a warm, play-based learning environment where curiosity, creativity, and kindness thrive.
This position is perfect for individuals passionate about Early Childhood Education (ECE), kindergarten readiness, social-emotional learning (SEL), and developmentally appropriate practice (DAP). You will partner with an experienced Lead Teacher to create high-quality learning experiences aligned with RIELDS, RIDHS licensing requirements, and best practices in early learning.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Support & Instruction
- Support developmentally appropriate practice (DAP) with hands-on activities, including centers, STEAM, literacy, sensory play, art, math, and science.
- Assist with implementing the curriculum using Creative Curriculum and traditional thematic units.
- Set up learning invitations, prepare materials, and maintain a smooth daily routine.
Child Development & SEL
- Foster positive, pro-social behavior using positive guidance, Conscious Discipline, and consistent classroom routines.
- Support children’s social-emotional development, problem-solving, and cooperative play.
Documentation & Family Communication
- Observe and document developmental milestones.
- Assist with portfolios and parent communication using our Parent Engagement App (training provided).
Health, Safety & Licensing Compliance
- Maintain health, safety, and sanitation standards in alignment with RIDHS regulations and center policies.
- Supervise children indoors and outdoors; ensure ratios and safety protocols are followed.
Team Collaboration & Support
- Collaborate with teachers and administration; float to other classrooms as needed.
- Participate in ongoing training, professional development, and staff meetings.
What We’re Looking For
Education & Credentials
- High school diploma or GED required.
- CDA, RIELDS coursework, or ECE training strongly preferred.
Experience
- Background working with groups of young children in preschool, childcare, after-school, camp, or other early learning settings.
Skills & Qualities
- Warm, patient, reliable, and enthusiastic about learning through play.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Organized, professional, and eager to grow.
- Familiarity with digital parent engagement tools or center management apps is a plus.
Requirements
- Must be 18 and able to pass all BCI/background checks.
- CPR/First Aid preferred or willingness to obtain.
- Must meet RIDHS onboarding and training requirements.
