We have an immediate opening for a Job Captain with a minimum three years of experience in the field of architecture to join one of our offices in Bend or Portland, Oregon. 

About Us 

SĀJ Architecture is a full-service firm headquartered in Bend, with an additional office in Portland. Our 19-person team offers architecture, interior design, and master planning for K-12 school, public, housing, mixed-use, and commercial projects. Our community-centered approach focuses on how people learn, live, work, play, and thrive within the spaces we co-create with our clients. 

Some of those clients include Oregon Dept. of Fish and Wildlife, Oregon Dept. of Forestry, Bend-Redmond Habitat for Humanity, the Port of Kalama, public school districts throughout Oregon and Washington, independent schools, and private housing and commercial developers. Our projects range from tenant improvements to multiphase mixed-use developments.

Job Captain Role Overview 

As a Job Captain, you'll lead the design and drawing development of small- to medium-sized projects and coordinate portions of large projects as part of a team. You'll work with project managers and subconsultants, develop design concepts, and ensure quality control throughout the design and construction process. You’ll also receive mentorship from senior-level architects and interior designers to buttress your professional development. 

About You  

As a Job Captain with SĀJ Architecture, you’ll be expected to: 

• Independently develop drawing sets and portions of the design in alignment with project goals. 
• Develop small-scale project budgets and schedules. 
• Engage in client and consultant meetings. 
• Produce programming information and design documentation. 
• Present design and project information to clients, and other necessary stakeholders with limited Project Manager supervision. 
• Serve as primary point of contact for consultants and contractors in relation to design questions  
• Perform code reviews and quality control checks. 
• Visit construction sites and prepare field reports. 

As a professional joining our firm you’ll bring: 

• A collaborative mindset and ability to work in a team.  
• Previous experience supporting architectural projects at all phases. 
• Excellent written, verbal, and graphic presentation skills. 

Position Requirements 

• Bachelor's degree in architecture or related field. 
• Substantive progress toward licensure or NCIDQ certification. 
• Experience using programs such as Revit, AutoCAD, Sketchup, Enscape, Bluebeam, Adobe Creative Suite, MS Outlook, Word, and Excel. 

Salary and Benefits Range: 

This position offers a starting salary of $60,000 – $90,000 per year.
