What are the responsibilities and job description for the Payroll Accountant position at Saint Peter Public Schools?
Job Goal: Provide professional payroll, benefit, human resource, and other financial services to the staff, students, parents and general public of St. Peter Public Schools.
Work Schedule:
240 days per year/8 hours per day
Responsibilities:
- Perform complex, responsible, and varied duties processing payroll for all staff.
- Monitor and implement payroll, payroll deductions, and employee contributions (state and federal taxes, PERA, TRA, 403B, etc.)
- Calculate salaries and contract pay in addition to changes to salaried contract pay.
- Review timecard entries for accuracy.
- Maintain time off records.
- Prepare W2 documents.
- Administer medical, dental, LTD, life, and flex programs.
- Manage retiree and COBRA benefits.
- Communicate with employees about benefit plans and respond to questions about benefits.
- Collaborate with other District Office staff to prepare payroll reports for both internal and external parties.
Qualifications:
- Accounting, finance, or business degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
- Experience in school finance preferred.
- Experience working with employment benefits and employee and retiree human resource items.
- Experience working with SMART accounting system preferred.
- Knowledge of Minnesota school accounting and UFARSS coding system is preferred.
- Ability to work with computerized accounting systems and applications, particularly spreadsheets.
- Basic knowledge of various types of employee benefits and insurance.
