What are the responsibilities and job description for the 4th and 5th Grade ELA Teacher position at Saint Michael Catholic School?
Saint Michael Catholic School is seeking an experienced 4th and 5th grade English Language Arts teacher to form and educate young souls, in collaboration with parents, in the classical and Catholic intellectual tradition. The ideal candidate will be able to teach 4th and 5th grade ELA (grammar, writing, spelling, literature) and some humanities (theology, history) while also serving as the 5th grade homeroom teacher. Applicants should have experience with Socratic discussion, Charlotte Mason narration techniques, and be dedicated to forming strong readers and writers who will carry forward a lifelong love of great literature. The candidate must understand their mission as partnering with families in student formation and should enjoy time spent in discussion with colleagues about art, music, and the Great Books. All Saint Michael teachers are expected to model the teachings of the Catholic Church in their own lives and to be zealous in passing them on to our students.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and 3 years of experience in the classroom and will have a solid foundation and understanding of the Catholic faith and the classical liberal arts tradition. The right candidate with less experience may also be considered.
