Overview
Join a small, diverse team overseeing the facilities of a historic Lancaster City church. Saint James Episcopal Church has been on the corner of Duke and Orange Streets in the heart of downtown Lancaster for more than 275 years. Our historic two-acre campus includes five buildings and a pre–Revolutionary War graveyard. Saint James is rich in tradition while striving to be involved in present day community activities and causes, always welcoming visitors to the campus and seeking inclusion of all community members.
The Maintenance Technician is a new and key role on the team. It requires proven skills in buildings and grounds maintenance and experience in the repair, upkeep, and troubleshooting of the buildings, building systems, and grounds of Saint James to ensure safe, secure, and efficient operations. Given our prominence in the city, we must maintain visually-appealing buildings and grounds on our historic campus.
This is a part-time position. Some early mornings, evenings and weekends may occasionally be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Preventative Maintenance: Inspecting and servicing equipment regularly to prevent failures
- Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and tech systems; liaise with contractors as needed
- Facility Maintenance: Proactively maintaining building structures and security systems
- Grounds Maintenance: Proactively maintaining walkways and churchyard, including careful and regular mowing and snow/ice removal as needed around fragile monuments and finishes
- Improvement Projects: Assist with completing, or liaising with contractors on, improvement projects
- Documentation: Recording maintenance activities, work orders, and inventory updates; tracking spending and receipts
- Safety Compliance: Adhering to safety protocols and best practices and ensuring systems and required inspections are kept up to date
Requirements
- Education: High School diploma or GED; technical school or trade certification is highly preferred
- Experience: 1-3 years of experience in industrial or building maintenance
- Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical systems, carpentry, masonry, landscaping or another technical area is preferred; experience with operating and using hand tools, snow removal equipment and lawn care tools
- Computer Technology: basic computer skills (email) are required and basic knowledge of tech equipment/systems preferred
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy objects, climb, bend, and work in varied weather conditions; must be okay working from a ladder, scaffolding or lift
- Background Checks: All employees must complete background checks and child-protection training; experience with the judicial system is not necessarily a barrier to employment
- Other: Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
