Role Purpose

The Dean of Students is a mission-centered leader who helps ensure Saint Francis High School is a place where students feel safe, known, and supported—and where accountability is rooted in dignity, relationship, and growth. Grounded in the school’s Catholic and Holy Cross identity, the Dean of Students partners closely with students, families, faculty, and staff to foster a culture of belonging, responsibility, and care. This full-time exempt role works on the SFHS academic calendar: late July through early June.

Core Areas of Impact

This role calls for a thoughtful balance of structure and compassion. The Dean upholds clear and consistent expectations while approaching each student as a developing young person, capable of reflection, repair, and transformation. Through presence, listening, and guidance, the Dean supports students’ academic, social, emotional, and spiritual growth.

Student Safety & Well-Being
Serve as a visible and trusted leader committed to both physical and emotional safety. Promote and uphold proactive systems that support student well-being and respond to concerns with calm judgment, empathy, and clarity.

Restorative Accountability & Growth
Guide discipline and accountability practices that emphasize learning, responsibility, and repair. Support students in understanding the impact of their actions, rebuilding trust, and growing in self-awareness and integrity.

Culture, Belonging & Relationships
Foster a welcoming and supportive school culture aligned with Holy Cross BRIC values. (Bringing Hope, Respecting Others, Inspiring Integrity, and Celebrating Family)  Build strong, authentic relationships with students—especially those in moments of challenge—and collaborate with families and colleagues to ensure consistency, care, and connection.

Collaborative Leadership
Foster shared responsibility among educators for upholding clear, consistent expectations that support student formation as Holy Cross individuals and sustain a safe, inclusive learning environment. Partner closely with faculty, instructional coaches, counselors, and the Director of School Culture and Belonging to strengthen classroom practices and align collective expectations in the service of student success. Contribute to professional learning that builds staff capacity in restorative, developmentally responsive, and mission-aligned approaches.

Stewardship of Student Life Systems
Oversee student life structures—including attendance, supervision, and daily operations—with a lens toward safety, fairness, and student development. Coordinate emergency preparedness and campus supervision in collaboration with school leaders, athletics, and activities.

Reflection, Communication & Continuous Improvement
Engage thoughtfully in reviewing student concerns, supporting restorative processes, and communicating with families in moments that require care and clarity. Has the ability to navigate high-emotion conversations with clarity, compassion, and professionalism. Use data and reflection to strengthen practices and contribute to ongoing review of school policies and the Student-Parent Handbook.

Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will have had three or more years of successful leadership experience in student affairs, teaching, or program management at the high school level, with increasing levels of responsibility preferred. During that time, the candidate will have demonstrated the ability to build and sustain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, families, and the broader school community while managing multiple competing priorities with sound judgment and discernment.
