This temporary position will cover a Physical Education/Health teacher vacancy from approximately the beginning of March through the end of June 2026, with the possibility of transitioning to a full-time role for the 2026-2027 academic year. Saint Demetrios Greek-American School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic part-time Physical Education/Health Teacher for our Middle School and High School students (grades 6-12). The ideal candidate will foster physical fitness, promote healthy lifestyles, and create an engaging, inclusive environment where students develop athletic skills, teamwork, and a lifelong appreciation for wellness.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging physical education and health lessons aligned with state standards and school objectives
- Teach a variety of sports, fitness activities, and health topics appropriate for middle and high school students
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs and abilities of all students
- Integrate innovative teaching methods and technology to enhance student learning
- Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback
- Create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment
- Establish and enforce clear expectations for behavior and participation
- Foster relationships with students to support their social and emotional development.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of athletic equipment and facilities
- Monitor student safety during all physical activities to ensure student safety
- Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and character development
- Encourage healthy lifestyle choices and physical fitness
- Support students' social-emotional growth through physical activity
- Serve as a positive role model for students
- Collaborate with faculty and administration to support school-wide initiatives
- Maintain open communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress and classroom activities.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events as required
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student performance
- Uphold the mission and values of Saint Demetrios Greek-American School
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Health Education, Kinesiology, or related field; New York State teaching certification (6-12) preferred
- Knowledge of age-appropriate physical education curriculum and health education topics
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills that promote a positive learning environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively with adolescents
- CPR and First Aid certification (preferred or willingness to obtain)
- Familiarity with special education strategies and resources.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage students effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and community members.
- A commitment to professional development and continuous improvement in teaching practices.
