JOB SUMMARY :
Successfully interacts with SVSU faculty, staff, students, and visitors. Performs routine duties necessary to provide support to the University Police/Parking Services Department and campus community. Provides customer service functions at front window of University Police/Parking Services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
Manage incoming calls to identify and assess customers’ needs and answer their questions.
Refer customers to supervisor or others who can help when necessary.
Provide clerical support: includes typing, sorting and delivering mail to proper office when necessary, maintaining files, and data entry as assigned.
Assists with on-the-job student clerk training.
Arrange for the ordering of office supplies and maintain appropriate follow-up of departmental record for such transactions.
Initiate the University’s notification system(s) to alert the campus community as directed.
Conduct regularly scheduled tests of the campus wide notification system.
Monitor SVSU campus camera system display for suspicious/criminal activity and/or assist police officers by viewing camera system when a crime is in progress.
Responsible for monitoring and documenting on-campus police/student communication.
Responsible for monitoring Saginaw County 911 radio traffic for campus related issues and response.
Responsible for maintaining confidentiality of police and student records as required by law and department procedures.
Assists with duties related to parking including collection of fees, issuance of permits, etc.
May occasionally provide LEIN service to police officers and/or Parking Bureau for billing and notification purposes.
Receipt and reconciliation of cash and/or checks.
Attend training as required or assigned.
Expected at all times to diligently follow the Mission and Vision of the Saginaw Valley State University Police Department and the Core Values of the University.
Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED :
General supervision is received from the Administrative Assistant to the Chief of University Police. Additional work assignments/direction and guidance may be provided by other departmental Administrative Professional staff.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED :
Assists with training of student workers and day-to-day coordination of tasks.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
High school diploma or equivalent.
Three years of increasingly responsible work experience.
Ability to communicate with a high level of professionalism and establish positive rapport in unusual situations and with difficult customers.
Ability to maintain composure in crisis and high stress situations.
Must be LEIN certified or achieve such certification within 60 days of hire.
Knowledge of computers and computer software applications.
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
Must have customer-service oriented attitude.
Ability to handle differing, non-routine work situations.
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
Ability to respond quickly and appropriately to varying, unique and/or trying situations.
Ability to work under pressure, occasionally for long periods of time.
Experience and ability to positively interact with all members of the campus community

PREFERRED:
Additional education, training, or certification in related area.
Previous clerical experience in higher education.
Previous or current experience in the public safety field.
