General Definition of Work:
Under general supervision of jail Sergeant, provides security for incarcerated inmates in the Saginaw County Jail.
Supervises inmates during exercise and visitation periods. Assists with searches, rounds, feeding, changing clothing,
delivering mail, moving and incidental duties.
Essential Functions:
• Makes rounds ensuring prisoners are safe, secure, accounted for, and that all rules and regulations are being
followed.
- Moves inmates from quarantine to new cell locations and from holding tanks in Booking to new cell locations. This
- Completes various paperwork. Maintains control tower log and prepares reports on unusual activities.
- Removes inmates from cells, searches, and escorts to/from exercise area. Monitors inmates during exercise
- Periodically searches inmate cells for contraband items and makes written report of findings.
- Issues clean clothing to inmates.
- Ensures jail is clean and sanitary.
- Assists in inmate feeding, delivers mail, and takes inmates to medical area, etc.
- Oversees trustees performing various functions such as passing out forms, laundry, and supplies.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Special Requirements:
✓ Must attend and pass the 160-hour Local Corrections Officer Training Academy within one year of hire.
✓ Ability to use tact and diplomacy and understand people from all social/economic and cultural backgrounds.
