What are the responsibilities and job description for the QC Auditor | Sage Home Loans position at Sage Home Loans Corporation?
We are seeking a detail-oriented, analytical, and compliance-driven Quality Control Auditor to join our growing Direct-to-Consumer mortgage company. This role is critical in ensuring that our loan origination and servicing activities are of the highest quality, and are conducted in accordance with internal policies, investor guidelines, and regulatory requirements (e.g., Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, and CFPB).
As a QC Auditor, you'll perform pre-funding and post-funding audits, evaluate sales, underwriting, and operational outcomes and processes, identify process gaps, assess documentation quality, and help the company maintain its commitment to excellence and consumer trust.
What You'll Do
Audit & Compliance
- Conduct monthly post-closing loan audits to assess accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable laws, guidelines, and policies.
- Execute pre-funding audits as needed to identify early-stage risk indicators.
- Audit loan files for data integrity across credit, income, asset, appraisal, and underwriting documentation.
- Identify and escalate any red flags, misrepresentation, or fraud concerns.
- Ensure QC audits align with GSE requirements, HUD/FHA Handbook, and other Agency/Investor guidelines.
- Communicate directly with lines of business in understanding and clarifying circumstances during audit activities, explain findings, and evaluate responses and action plans.
Reporting & Documentation
- Draft clear, actionable audit reports summarizing findings, risk levels, and remediation timelines.
- Collaborate with the QC Manager to prepare monthly and quarterly trend reports for leadership.
- Maintain meticulous audit logs, loan-level data, and backup documentation in compliance with internal recordkeeping standards.
Remediation & Process Improvement
- Work closely with operations, underwriting, and compliance teams to investigate root causes and resolve issues.
- Track and validate remediation efforts in response to audit findings.
- Recommend process enhancements or training needs based on recurring issues or systemic risks.
Internal Support
- Assist in external audits or investor reviews, including data gathering and audit defense.
- Stay up to date with regulatory changes, investor announcements, and industry trends that may impact QC procedures.
- Participate in quality assurance projects, system testing, or training program development.
What We're Looking For
- 2–5 years of mortgage quality control, underwriting, or risk management experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, or related field preferred.
- Strong knowledge of FNMA/FHLMC guidelines, FHA, VA, and USDA requirements.
- Working knowledge of TRID, RESPA, ECOA, and other compliance regulations.
- Strong understanding of appraisals and appraisal quality review.
- Proficiency in LOS platforms (e.g., Encompass, Blend), Excel, and audit management tools.
- High attention to detail and a strong sense of integrity and confidentiality.
- Previous experience at a DTC or fintech mortgage lender preferred
- Understanding of Servicing QC requirements is a plus.
Compensation
- USA Compensation Range: $70-85k
