Job Title: House Manager & Family Assistant

Employment Type: Part-time (10-15 hours/week, with potential to grow)

Compensation: $30–35/hour, based on experience.

- 3 days per week (between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm, with flexibility)
About Our Family:
We are a lively and loving family of four, living in the heart of Alexandria, VA. Both of us work full-time, and we have two wonderful kids (ages 11 and 7). We’re seeking a warm, dependable, and detail-oriented house manager who can help us stay organized, manage household tasks, and offer some occasional childcare support.
Our ideal candidate is someone who is proactive, flexible, and able to work independently, helping us keep our home running smoothly while easing our mental load. Although the primary focus of this role will be household support, occasional assistance with school pick-ups and childcare would be appreciated as needed.

You’re detail-oriented, proactive, and can take the initiative to tackle the necessary daily tasks while keeping everything running smoothly. Whether it’s managing laundry, meal prep, or helping with the kids’ activities, you know how to jump in wherever needed, keeping the home organized and everyone on track.
You enjoy working independently while valuing clear communication, reliability, and thoughtful collaboration — providing the steady, behind-the-scenes support that helps our household function seamlessly.
Key Responsibilities:
Household Management & Organization:
- Maintain organization systems in closets, storage areas, pantry, and toys
- Reset and tidy rooms daily, ensuring the home is prepped for bi-weekly cleaning services
- Restock household supplies and manage grocery orders (Amazon, Costco, etc.)
- Manage seasonal clothing swaps and maintain children’s wardrobes
- Coordinate donation pickups and manage household schedules
- Straighten the living room daily: put away blankets/throws, straighten pillows on the sofa, pick up clothes dropped by the children
- Wipe down the bathrooms and pick up children’s rooms
- Straighten up the mudroom and keep organized
Meal Preparation and Kitchen Organization:
- Shop for groceries and organize food items in the fridge and pantry
- Clean and prep produce for the week, ensuring snacks are ready for the kids after school
- Pack school lunches or have ingredients available for quick meal prep
- Maintain an organized pantry and keep a running list of items to replenish (e.g., milk, bread, eggs) and household supplies (e.g., cleaners)
- Clean the kitchen after meal prep and maintain tidiness throughout the day
Laundry & Linen Care
- Manage family laundry, including bedding and towels
- Determine which day of the week the beds need to be changed (wash dirty sheets, fold, and put away)
- Gather items for dry cleaning service and place on front porch
- Ensure laundry areas are tidy and well-stocked
Inventory Management & Errands
- Track and restock pantry, fridge, toiletries, household supplies
- Create and manage running household supply lists
- Coordinate and manage household orders
- Run local errands (grocery shopping, returns, gift shopping, etc.)
Childcare & Family Support
- Assist with occasional school, activity and camp pick-ups and drop-offs, as needed
- Create and maintain a dedicated homework space for children, ensuring supplies stay replenished and organized
- Support with child-related laundry and errands
Deep Cleaning & Special Projects
- Occasional deep cleaning tasks such as cleaning the fridge, freezer, oven and washing machines
- Maintain and refresh specific zones (entryways, garage, mudroom)
- Organize special projects like seasonal decorations, holiday room, etc.
