SMG seeks a local Safety Advisor - Owner's Rep in the Charlotte, North Carolina area.
The key function of a Safety Advisor is to put safety at the forefront of their job, prioritize the client’s needs, work well in a team setting, be self-managed, and be flexible when it comes to change.
Overview of Job Responsibilities:
- Assess contractor safety programs and related policies to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.
- Conduct thorough reviews of contractor safety policies, permits, and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) practices.
- Benchmark with peer organizations and clients to identify best practices for enhancing the Contractor Management System.
- Act as a liaison between stakeholders and contractors to promote open communication throughout project execution.
- Collaborate with General Contractors and Project Teams to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations.
- Perform safety observations and confirm that General Contractors implement appropriate corrective actions for unsafe conditions or practices.
- Keep stakeholders informed of contractor safety performance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Facilitate incident reporting procedures and ensure timely documentation.
- Review JHAs and project-specific safety plans to support hazard identification and mitigation.
- Participate in pre-job safety reviews and daily safety planning as needed.
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert on safety policies and provide coaching to Project Management teams and contractors, including OSHA interpretations.
- Partner with the EHS Manager to analyze safety data and report on project activity using leading and lagging indicators.
Requirements
- 3 to 5 years of safety experience
- A degree in Safety or related fields is preferred
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Course
Physical Demands of the job may include:
- Moving about long distances
- Ascending/Descending stairs and ladders
- Remaining in a stationary position for a prolonged period
- Working in extreme weather
- Being exposed to loud noises
- Wearing personal protective gear correctly
