SMG seeks a local Safety Advisor in the Laurel, Maryland.
The key function of a Safety Advisor is to put safety at the forefront of their job, prioritize the client’s needs, work well in a team setting, be self-managed, and be flexible when it comes to change and travel. The Associate in this role will work in a construction environment.
Overview of Job Responsibilities
- Site safety observations, including documentation of findings
- Conduct Job Hazard Analysis
- Assist in JHA/JSA development and AHA development
- Develop site-specific policies
- Create lockout procedures
- Perform program and policy development
- Support local plant leadership on safety matters
- Support the facility's safe work permit writer and issuer
- Conduct new hire orientation and other training needs
- Assist plant resources in overall safety improvement
- Input findings into daily site inspections for tracking
- Input any incident or violations into the client's system
- First contact for safety-related questions
Requirements
- Five to seven plus years of safety experience
- Preferably, a mixture of experience in construction and general industry
- A degree in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent
- Knowledgeable with LOTO
Physical Demands of the job may include
- Moving long distances
- Ascending/Descending stairs and ladders
- Remaining in a stationary position for a prolonged period
- Working in extreme weather
- Being exposed to loud noises
- Wearing personal protective gear correctly
