Production Planning & Supply Chain Coordinator

As we continue to grow, we're looking for an organized, proactive, and technically minded Production Planning & Supply Chain Coordinator to own the flow of every project from engineering release through manufacturing and final shipment.
Position Summary
This role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and controlling the flow of materials and manufacturing activities across the business.
You'll be the operational hub between Engineering, Sales, Manufacturing, Warehouse, and Suppliers - ensuring materials are purchased, Bills of Materials are accurate, work orders are released correctly, production is scheduled efficiently, and customer deliveries remain on schedule.
Success in this position requires someone who enjoys solving problems, improving systems, and keeping multiple projects moving simultaneously.
Production Planning
- Develop and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules.
- Balance production capacity across fabrication, welding, machining, assembly, finishing, and shipping.
- Release manufacturing work orders within NetSuite.
- Schedule production based on customer priorities, material availability, labor capacity, and machine utilization.
- Monitor production progress and adjust schedules to minimize delays.
- Coordinate manufacturing priorities with department supervisors.
- Forecast manufacturing capacity and identify future bottlenecks.
NetSuite Manufacturing & BOM Management
- Create, maintain, and revise Bills of Materials (BOMs) within NetSuite.
- Build manufacturing assemblies, routings, and work orders.
- Maintain accurate item masters and manufacturing records.
- Process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and ensure revisions are reflected throughout production.
- Validate BOM accuracy against engineering drawings before production release.
- Ensure purchased components, fabricated parts, hardware, and consumables are correctly allocated within each BOM.
- Improve BOM standardization and manufacturing data integrity.
Procurement & Supplier Management
- Source raw materials, fabricated components, and outsourced manufacturing services.
- Create and manage purchase orders in NetSuite.
- Negotiate pricing, lead times, and delivery schedules.
- Develop strategic supplier relationships.
- Track supplier performance including quality, responsiveness, pricing, and on-time delivery.
- Expedite critical materials to prevent manufacturing delays.
- Identify alternative suppliers and cost-saving opportunities.
Inventory & Materials Planning
- Plan inventory levels based on production forecasts.
- Maintain optimal stock levels while minimizing excess inventory.
- Forecast long lead-time material requirements.
- Monitor inventory accuracy through cycle counts and reconciliation.
- Ensure materials are available before work orders are released.
- Reduce stock-outs and emergency purchasing.
Production Coordination
- Coordinate the release of jobs from Engineering to Manufacturing.
- Verify drawings, BOMs, purchased materials, and fabrication requirements before production begins.
- Resolve production bottlenecks and material shortages.
- Coordinate subcontract manufacturing and outside processing.
- Work closely with Warehouse and Shipping to ensure customer delivery commitments are achieved.
Continuous Improvement
- Improve production scheduling processes.
- Reduce manufacturing lead times.
- Improve inventory turns and purchasing efficiency.
- Reduce material waste and production downtime.
- Improve NetSuite manufacturing processes and data accuracy.
- Standardize BOM structures and purchasing practices across product lines.
Reporting & Performance
Develop and report key operational metrics including:

Provide recommendations that improve operational efficiency, inventory management, and manufacturing performance.
QualificationsRequired
- 3 years of experience in production planning, supply chain, procurement, or manufacturing operations.
- Experience using ERP/MRP systems in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience creating and maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and production scheduling.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Preferred
- NetSuite Manufacturing experience.
- Experience with aluminum fabrication, structural steel, industrial equipment, or custom manufacturing.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and fabrication details.
- APICS (CPIM/CSCP), CPSM, or similar supply chain certification.
- Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience.
