What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safehouse Advocate position at SafeQuest Solano?

Position Description:

We only have positions available for overnight and weekend shifts.

Safehouse Advocates work with clients who are survivors/victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and elder abuse using a trauma informed philosophy to help them end the cycle of violence in their lives and the lives of their children.

Primarily based at Safehouse location(s). Advocates manage day-to-day interactions with domestic violence and sexual assault survivors who are temporarily residing at the emergency shelter, or those housed at transitional housing.

Safehouse advocates oversee operations of the facility and provide backup on the 24/7 crisis hotline on all shifts, after hours, during holidays and on weekends if on-call or remote advocate(s) on shift become unavailable.

Essential Job Functions:

The following are essential job functions that must be safely performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, without posing a direct threat to other employees, clients or self:

  • Manages day-to-day interactions with DV/RC survivors who are temporarily residing at the emergency shelter, or those housed at the transitional housing unit.
  • Oversee operations of the houses.
  • Provide backup on 24/7 crisis hotline on all shifts, during holidays and on weekends in urgent situations if on-call or remote advocate(s) on shift become unavailable.
  • Provides advocacy and support to sexual assault and domestic violence victims through: crisis counseling, information and referrals to victims and accompaniment to hospitals/doctors, multidisciplinary team interviews, court and law enforcement accompaniment when needed.
  • Access to language and culturally sensitive/appropriate services to monolingual domestic violence/sexual assault victims from underserved communities.
  • Assesses client's immediate needs and provides Case Management.
  • Coordinates client transportation.

Professional Requirements:

  • Certification as a Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Counselor/Advocate (prefer bachelor degree in the social sciences)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work effectively within a team structure with members from diverse backgrounds
  • Knowledge and commitment to the principles of trauma informed care
  • Ability to think critically
  • High level of personal accountability and responsibility, flexibility and integrity
  • Ability to think critically
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently and productively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, especially nights, weekends, and overnights.
  • Must have a Valid CA driver’s license, Clean DMV record, reliable transportation, and valid auto liability insurance.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with clients in all circumstances.
  • Commitment to maintain client confidentiality.
  • Must have clear State and FBI criminal background check
  • Ability to travel as needed

Physical and Sensory Requirements (with or without mechanical devices):

  • Must be able to sit, stand, bend, walk, carry, reach, communicate verbally and in writing and have good interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to cope with mental and emotional stress of the position
  • May be required to push, pull and move equipment, supplies, etc. in excess of fifty (50) pounds

Pay: $20.00 - $21.00 per hour

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Night shift

  • Vallejo, CA: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Preferred)
