What are the responsibilities and job description for the Outreach Worker position at Safe Refuge?

At Safe Refuge, we believe everyone deserves the chance to recover from addictions to alcohol or drugs and so our programs are open to the population at large – not just those financially able to fund their own recovery. We also serve clients with combined mental health and addiction issues (co-occurring disorders).
Required Qualifications & Prior Experience:
Prefer candidate with at least 2 years’ experience in community outreach in Long Beach, and familiar with the many organizations that provide services to vulnerable and economically disadvantaged adults, including homeless adults. Prefer candidate with college degree, but will consider certified counselor, intern candidate, or candidate with at least 2 years of extensive community knowledge and relationships within the community. Must possess a valid California Driver’s License. Must pass an extensive background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and educational verifications. Must be eligible and authorized to work in the United States.
Required Skills and Knowledge:
Must possess basic knowledge, skills and abilities in office automation equipment and software including word, excel, outlook and Internet applications. Must have knowledge and experience networking with community organizations serving vulnerable and economically-disadvantaged adults, including homeless adults, as well as their family, friends, parents, partners and significant others. Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, as it impacts mental health among minorities, their families and significant others and the community is required.
Personal Qualities:
Must have a high degree of sensitivity to the agency’s target populations, including substance abusers/users, correctional populations, persons with HIV/AIDS, LGBT community, the homeless, indigent and those dually-diagnosed.
Supervisory Relationships:
Will work under the supervision of the Marketing/Outreach Director. Will work in cooperation with Clinical Director, Lead Peer Navigators, Peer Navigators, and other project staff and peer workers, as needed.
Duties:
Identify potential community collaboration partners. Work with Peer Navigators to provide and document incentivized, follow-up interviews for clients at 60-days post treatment to support program evaluation efforts. Coordinate outreach efforts with local homeless services organizations. Provide encouragement and support for individuals to enter program services. Conduct street outreach to communities. Perform street outreach to include all cities within the SPA8 area of Los Angeles County, with regular and frequent outreach for the city of Long Beach and surrounding areas. Attends provider network meetings. Interact with other social services providers and a wide array of providers in the community. Interface with public and community in order to maintain good community relations.
Special Conditions/Requirements:
Must have a vehicle for reliable and consistent means of transportation, driver’s license, and insurance. Must be able to drive for client appointments, events, outreach and follow-up activities.
