Job Description:
The Victim Services Coordinator (formerly referred to as Operations Director) is responsible for the direct supervision of the shelter facility, shelter staff, advocates, and victim service-related volunteers of SAFE in Lenoir County. This position reports to the Executive Director. The VSC is also responsible for:
· Assisting the Executive Director with programming and administrative operations
· Client records, data and file maintenance related to statistical reporting for Lenoir and Greene counties
· Client outreach and intake
· Support day-to-day client management
· Direct advocacy with victims of domestic violence
· Attending community meetings to further develop collaborative relationships in the area
This position supports program management in supervising, interviewing, and mentoring all new and established Victim Advocate personnel and shelter staff.
Responsibilities:
· Provide crisis intervention and advocacy to clients in need by telephone, computer or in person if other advocates are unavailable.
· Work closely with Executive Director to improve the quality of services to victims and to improve staff knowledge of services to assure equal treatment to all clients. No clients are to be denied services based on their immigration status, age, disability, gender identity or expression, race, creed, sexual and/or religious orientation or natural origin.
· Maintain and manage files for each client, whether sheltered or unsheltered.
· Work with Executive Director to provide community education and assist in coordinating community education programs and delegating staff to participate.
· Provide professional training to groups and organizations about appropriate identification and response to domestic violence as well as strategies to prevent domestic violence and support victims.
· Work with staff to develop domestic violence programs for specific awareness months and participate in community functions that demonstrate SAFE’s continued interest in our community.
· Recruit and train volunteers for the domestic violence programs with support/assistance from the Board of Directors and Executive Director
· Oversee operations of the shelter facility, working closely with the shelter manager and any additional personnel (community service or interns) working at the shelter
· Meet with victim advocates and the shelter manager frequently to discuss shelter status, compliance, program progress, and any issues with clients or shelter staff.
· Oversee shelter scheduling so that 24/7 coverage is maintained at all times for both the shelter and the crisis line. Schedule and facilitate crisis line training for all staff and volunteers on responding to individuals in crisis as outlined by NCCADV Best Practices and funding guidelines.
· Understand the unique needs of survivors and ensure all client-facing staff are well-trained in trauma-informed practices, suggesting specific training topics when a gap in knowledge is present.
· Provide referrals to victims including intervention services, information on community services offered, developing a safety plan, advocacy, peer or professional counseling or court accompaniment, as necessary.
· Assist with client transportation through community transport services, community organizations, or law enforcement to provide clients transportation needed to access services, which may include legal, housing, employment, medical, and government. When these services are not available, OD may need to transport victims in agency vehicle.
· Report any disciplinary problems including, but not limited to, shelter staff, shelter clients, advocates and volunteers immediately to the Executive Director that cannot be resolved.
· Investigate, plan and schedule continuing education training courses/webinars that will enhance victim services for the organization and communicate this educational information to all shelter staff and volunteers. Keep yearly updated records of training hours for all staff as required by our funding agencies.
· Attend continuing education training courses/webinars, paid for by SAFE, to enhance victim services for the organization equal to or greater than 20 hours annually.
· Provide community education training program to disability-related service providers, including independent living centers, long-term care facilities and faith communities, on recognizing the symptoms of abuse and the characteristics of potential batterers.
· Assist victims in locating alternative safe shelter or housing.
· Assist Executive Director with developing Memorandums of Understanding with shelters in surrounding counties and with other community or governmental agencies to better assist our clients.
· Attend other community meetings or events and perform other duties as necessary to fulfill program mission and project goals.
Job Requirements:
· A bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Women’s Studies, Public Health, or related field is required for this role.
· Must have strong knowledge of social work concepts and must possess the following core values and principles: social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships, integrity, compassion, empathy, and the understanding of the intrinsic right to both physical and mental safety.
· In-depth knowledge of intimate partner violence and family dynamics
· Ability to work collaboratively across multiple locations with diverse stakeholders and build partnerships.
· Demonstrate understanding of trauma-informed practices and survivor-centered approaches.
· Proficiency in program evaluation, data analysis, and report writing.
· Able to work independently.
· Strong management and leadership skills.
· Comfortable with public speaking to audiences of 5-500.
· Supportive and understanding of the mission and values of SAFE in Lenoir County.
· Ability to track progress on project timelines and reporting of progress to funders.
· Knowledge of property upkeep and ability to perform light repairs is a major plus (e.g. change out towel rack, put together furniture, hang pictures/curtains, etc.)
Reports to: Executive Director
Training: 20-hr domestic violence training annually, provided by SAFE
Work Schedule: FT, Monday-Friday 9-5 with some evening/weekend on-call shifts.

Pay: $33,000.00 - $35,000.00 per year
