Overview: Where Hope and Healing begin...Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center is dedicated to serving children who are victims of severe neglect, physical and sexual abuse through prevention, education, intervention and treatment. Safe Harbor is a non-profit agency that offers specialized services, at no cost to a child or their family, to aid in the investigation of child abuse and crimes witnessed by children in the 4th Judicial District.
General Description
This position contributes to the overall mission of Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center (SHCAC) by facilitating outreach, education and prevention in an effort to reduce child abuse and promote the overall mission of Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center throughout the 4th Judicial District. The Community Outreach and Prevention Education (COPE) Coordinator will oversee the coordination and delivery of Safe Harbor’s child abuse awareness and prevention education programs throughout the 4th Judicial District. The COPE Coordinator will serve as a community resource to schools, community and faith-based groups and the public and private sector. The coordinator will facilitate trainings and presentations on child abuse and child sexual abuse prevention including awareness of child pornography, child exploitation/trafficking, and sextortion. The coordinator will coordinate outreach events increasing Safe Harbor’s visibility in the community, promoting child abuse prevention and awareness.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for coordinating and directing the dissemination of valuable, applicable, and effective trainings on subjects that directly relate to the services offered by SHCAC of the Smokies and our Child Protective Investigative Teams (CPIT’s).
- Assist the Executive Director by scheduling and/or delivering applicable training programs for staff, CPIT members, community partners, donors, public and private sector groups, etc.
- Build and maintain community relationships and act as a community resource.
- Facilitate training and child abuse prevention education programs, including awareness of child pornography, child exploitation/trafficking, and sextortion for the benefit of children, families, CPIT members, first responders, churches, civic organizations, government leaders, and the general public.
- Manage all data and outcomes related to the program.
- Utilize social media platforms as a means to educate and disseminate information and engage community members.
- Provide supervision to the COPE Facilitator
Schedule
- 37.5 hours weekly
- Monday-Friday
- May include some evenings and weekends for outreach and training.

Minimum Qualifications/Experience
- Understanding of severe child abuse, human trafficking, and child pornography and their effects on its victims.
- Bachelor’s degree in a social service field, or a related field, and/or equivalent experience.
- Strong communication skills both orally and in writing and be comfortable presenting to group
- Familiar with Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint as well as social media platforms.
