Overview
Every vessel needs a steady hand at the helm — at Safe Harbor Boys’ Home, that role belongs to our Houseparents.
Houseparents live on campus or aboard Safe Harbor’s vessels, providing daily structure, mentorship, and spiritual guidance to teenage boys ages 14–17. This is not simply a job — it is a calling to live out your Christian faith through discipleship, accountability, and community life.
Houseparents walk alongside young men through everyday routines, challenges, and growth, modeling integrity, responsibility, and grace in a Christ-centered environment.
What Houseparents Do
Houseparents are the heart of our residential program, creating a home built on faith, consistency, discipline, and care.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide daily supervision, care, and mentoring for residents
- Maintain a safe, structured, Christ-centered living environment
- Model Christian character, integrity, and healthy boundaries
- Encourage spiritual growth, responsibility, and strong work ethic
- Support academics, vocational training, and daily routines
- Maintain cleanliness and order in assigned living spaces
- Partner with staff to uphold program expectations and values
- Participate in meals, devotionals, and community activities
Each Houseparent (or Houseparent couple) oversees a small group of boys (typically 10–15), building relationships rooted in respect, accountability, and trust.
Faith & Values Alignment (Required)
Safe Harbor is a Christian ministry, and Houseparents are expected to actively live out and model biblical values.
Ideal candidates:
- Have a growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ
- Are emotionally mature, dependable, and teachable
- Can provide firm, loving structure and consistent discipline
- Are comfortable mentoring teenage boys with patience and grace
- Value teamwork, accountability, and community living
- Are physically active and comfortable in a maritime/outdoor setting
- Have leadership, mentoring, maintenance, or trade skills (preferred, not required)
- Are willing to embrace a lifestyle of service, simplicity, and shared mission

Living Arrangements & Schedule
Houseparents live on-site aboard a vessel, in campus housing, or approved RV accommodations. Life at Safe Harbor is active, relational, and purpose-driven, centered around shared meals, devotionals, vocational projects, and daily rhythms.
Schedule:
- 14 days on duty (rotating day/night shifts)
- Followed by 7 consecutive days off
- Provides balance, sustainability, and time for rest, family, and church involvement
Compensation & Benefits
Safe Harbor offers a competitive total compensation package that supports both ministry and daily living.
What You’ll Receive:
- Cash compensation starting at $25,000/year per person (based on experience)
- On-site housing provided (valued at approx. $20,000 annually, non-taxable)

Total estimated annual value: approximately $45,000 per person
