JOB SUMMARY:

Sacred Hearts Academy is a Catholic college preparatory school which provides girls and young women an exceptional education, to inspire and become leaders for their communities and the world. Under the direction of the Principal, the School Counselor will play a vital role in advising and supporting students academically, socially, and emotionally. Responsibilities include providing individualized student planning, delivering guidance classes, and conducting workshops for parents. Collaborating closely with parents, teachers, administrators, and behavioral health specialists to address student needs effectively.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in School Counseling or Education or related field. Degrees and course credits must be earned from a nationally or internationally accredited college or university.
  • One year of school counseling experience at the middle school or high school level.
  • An equivalent combination of education and teaching experience may substitute for the requirements listed above.
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Google Classroom
  • Report to work obligations to support the counseling department and may require work outside normal business hours, if necessary.
  • Must be able to understand, read/ write in English to follow basic instructions, and take, direction from supervisors and colleagues.
  • Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with Virtus/Safe Environment policy.
  • Able to work all required shifts and possible extended hours.
  • Ability to implement faith-based curriculum consistent with the Academy’s Catholic mission.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in School Counseling.
  • Three years school counseling experience in the upper or middle school level.
  • Three years of teaching strong knowledge of content area curriculum and instructional methodologies.

Other Qualifications:

  • Working familiarity with student assessment tools, especially in evaluating and interpreting standardized test results like PSAT/SAT, ACT, and psychoeducational reports.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to effectively meet deadlines and communicate sensitively with students, parents, administrators, and staff.
  • Comprehensive understanding of counseling principles and techniques, enabling the development and implementation of tailored guidance curriculum for students at various developmental stages.
  • Knowledge of age-appropriate instructional methods for assigned grade levels.
  • Ability to support and motivate students towards achieving their personalized educational goals.
  • Skill in differentiating and personalizing instruction to meet diverse student needs.
  • Proficiency in managing both small and large student groups across different instructional environments.
  • Effective communication skills with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds in multi-aged environments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, organizational abilities, multitasking capabilities, and sound judgment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
  • Capacity to thrive in a dynamic environment, utilizing excellent time and stress management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to protect and maintain confidential information.
  • Successful candidate will be able to work in an environment that utilizes excellent time and stress management skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES:

1. Counseling (70%)

a.) Advises and counsels students regarding academic, educational, and short-term social and emotional problems.

b.) Remains universally accessible and makes great effort to know every student for whom they are responsible.

c.) Provides individual student planning and responsive services to support students and their families regarding academic matters.

d.) Teaches guidance classes and provides guidance counseling to students through planned activities in small group or classroom settings to convey educational, social/emotional, and important school information, and offers workshops/seminars for parents.

e.) Consults, facilitates, and maintains communication with parents, teachers, administrators, and pertinent agents on specific student and parent academic and educational matters including academic modifications and/or accommodations.

f.) Provides feedback and recommends appropriate action and solutions to individual student’s academic and educational needs and abilities.

g.) Participates in parent-teacher conferences, identifies students who may need targeted or intensive services, and coordinates with appropriate agencies.

h.) Assists students/parents in understanding school policies and procedures.

i.) Provides brief counseling to address social and emotional concerns and appropriately refers students to mental health providers.

j.) Communicates, coordinates, and collaborates with mental health providers on developing and implementing student supports.

k.) Supports and attends appropriate student activities and events.

l.) Assists in organizing and implementing standardized testing in school.

m.) Reviews standardized test outcomes with students and appropriate stakeholders.

  • Helps students plan for a successful post-secondary transition, college, vocational training or enter the work force
  • Works with students to develop critical life skills such as organization, conflict resolution, and time management.
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate new student orientations specifically for 7-12 grade levels in July.

2. School Activities (20%)

a.) Responsible to attend all liturgies and faculty meetings where applicable, at times will attend faculty in-service training sessions, retreats, assemblies, and school functions to include: Sacred Hearts Academy ceremonies such Baccalaureate Mass, Commencement, Fall and Spring Open House, Faculty In-Service, Faculty Retreat, Mass of the Holy Spirit, Annual Conference for Catholic Educators, Faith Formation, admissions testing, parent events and supervision of school-sponsored student events such as dances, Freshman Mother/Daughter Banquet, Sophomore Father/Daughter; Junior Prom, Senior Prom, Senior Ohana Luncheon, Academy Uncorked, and performing arts events.

3. Performs other related duties as assigned (10%)

  • Serves as community relations liaison for the school.
  • Actively participates as an effective member of the team by completing assigned duties, accepting additional assignments or reassignments.
