Summary:
The School Counselor will serve as a key member of the student support team, delivering school-wide counseling services, supporting student mental health and wellness, providing academic and behavioral guidance, and collaborating with staff and families to foster a healthy school climate.
Primary Responsibilities:
● Provide individual and group counseling to students
● Support crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and behavior de-escalation
● Deliver classroom lessons on SEL topics (e.g., friendship, conflict resolution, managing emotions)
● Collaborate with teachers, SPED staff, and administration to support student success
● Support parent engagement through regular communication and educational workshops
● Maintain records in compliance with FERPA and DOE standards
● Assist with implementation of the school's PBIS and 504 processes
● Participate in SST meetings and IEP meetings when appropriate
● Liaise with community mental health providers and services
Qualifications:
● Master’s degree in School Counseling or a related field required
● Hawaii DOE licensure or eligibility for licensure preferred
● Experience working with diverse student populations, including SPED and 504 plans
● Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
Preferred Skills:
● Background in trauma-informed care
● Familiarity with Waldorf or holistic education practices
● Experience with restorative practices and SEL curricula
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Contract
Pay: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
