POSITION SUMMARYMedical SchedulerResponsible for making and scheduling patients’ appointments in an efficient and timely manner. Responsible for referrals, authorizations, and insurance verifications. Responsible for maintaining database, updating patients’ information as needed, answering phones, and screening calls. Responsible for providing excellent customer service.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCEMinimum Education (or substitute experience) required:High School degree or GEDSkills required:Bilingual: English/Spanish - (preferred)Appropriate grammar and writing skillsUnderstanding of patient education needs and ability to provide educationEPIC knowledge (preferred)Customer Service focusedProblem solving/Critical thinkingClear written and spoken communicationTime managementGood judgment and decision makingKnowledge:Knowledge of healthcare field and medical specialtyKnowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and familiesAbilities:Ability to project a pleasant and professional imageAbility to assess, plan, prioritize and complete delegated tasksAbility to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with othersAbility to coordinate patient care with team members and other appropriate departmentsMinimum one (1) year experience in computerized appointment scheduling.Two years medical clerical experience preferred. Must be able to handle patient confrontations in a positive manner. Ability to handle emergency situations and have the ability to develop triage skills.
