We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer I to join a multi-discipline civil, electrical, and mechanical design team supporting the development and implementation of modular infrastructure solutions across the Data Center, Utility, Fiber, and Telecommunications sectors. This entry-level role focuses on supporting mechanical design activities including HVAC system design, piping and fluid systems, metal component design, material selection, and basic dynamic/structural analysis. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with senior engineers, designers, and cross-functional partners to develop cost-effective, manufacturable, and reliable mechanical systems for modular products and integrated equipment solutions.

Essential Duties
Technical Competencies
- Mechanical System Design: Foundational understanding of HVAC systems, airflow modeling, fluid mechanics, and thermal performance.
- Piping & Fluid Systems: Ability to assist with routing, sizing, and specifying piping, pumps, valves, and associated components.
- Fabrication & Metal Forming: Familiarity with sheet metal design, weldments, machining, and general fabrication practices.
- Materials Engineering: Basic knowledge of material properties, corrosion considerations, and selection for environmental and structural suitability.
- Dynamic Analysis: Exposure to vibration, loading, fatigue, and mechanical stress analysis concepts (FEA familiarity is a plus).
- Control Systems Awareness: Basic understanding of control components (sensors, actuators, dampers, VFDs) and how they integrate with mechanical systems.
- CAD & Drafting: Ability to read, interpret, and generate mechanical drawings, models, and specifications in collaboration with drafting teams.
- Manufacturing Support: Understanding of manufacturability, tolerancing, assembly constraints, and quality considerations.
- Analytical Problem-Solving: Applies engineering principles to troubleshoot design and performance issues.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Works effectively with civil, electrical, structural, and manufacturing teams.
- Communication: Produces clear documentation, drawing markups, and technical reports with guidance.
- Attention to Detail: Ensures accuracy in calculations, drawings, and component selection.
- Learning Mindset: Demonstrates curiosity, initiative, and the desire to grow technical and industry knowledge.
- Assist in the design and development of HVAC systems, mechanical layouts, ductwork, and airflow paths for modular infrastructure.
- Contribute to piping and fluid system designs including line sizing, component selection, and routing planning.
- Support sheet metal component design, structural framing concepts, and modular enclosure mechanical interfaces.
- Perform basic engineering calculations including heat loads, pressure drops, equipment sizing, and material strength checks.
- Participate in dynamic analysis activities such as vibration evaluation, fatigue considerations, and mechanical stability checks.
- Collaborate with drafters and senior engineers to produce mechanical drawings, 3D models, and BOMs.
- Generate markups, redlines, and revision updates for design packages.
- Ensure designs follow internal standards, industry codes, and project specifications.
- Work closely with engineers across civil, structural, and electrical disciplines to ensure coordinated designs.
- Support manufacturing and assembly teams by responding to design questions, updating drawings, and resolving production issues.
- Participate in design reviews, hazard assessments, and manufacturability evaluations.
- Assist in prototype builds, system testing, airflow and thermal validation, and commissioning activities.
- Support root-cause investigation and corrective actions related to mechanical design issues.
- Document results, lessons learned, and recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Learn and apply relevant industry codes and standards (ASHRAE, ASTM, AWS, ASME, etc.).
- Ensure designs meet safety, reliability, environmental, and durability requirements for modular applications.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of internal design tools, templates, and processes.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field required.
Experience
- 0–2 years of relevant engineering experience (internships, co-ops, or project-based experience welcomed).
- Exposure to HVAC, piping, enclosure design, or mechanical systems preferred.
- Experience with CAD tools (Inventor, AutoCAD Mechanical, SolidWorks, or similar) is advantageous.
- Familiarity with thermal modeling or CFD concepts.
- Basic understanding of PLC-controlled systems or building automation.
- Hands-on experience in fabrication, testing, or mechanical assembly environments.
- Coursework or exposure to structural mechanics, vibration, or fatigue analysis.
- Must be able to perform work in any environment and various weather conditions such as rain, sleet, snow and extreme cold and heat.
- Must be able to regularly use hands to grasp, pinch or pull materials.
- Must be able to feel and reach with hands and arms.
- Must frequently stand, walk, stoop, kneel or crouch.
- Must be able to climb in and out of equipment.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 lbs., frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to pass the commercial driver’s vision test requirements.
