BASIC PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Sr. Environmental Advisor is responsible for providing strategic environmental leadership and technical expertise to support Sable Offshore Corp.'s California oil and gas operations. This role ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental laws, regulations, permits, and company policies while supporting safe, environmentally responsible, and efficient operations. The Senior Environmental Advisor serves as a subject matter expert, partnering with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Regulatory, and HSE teams to proactively identify environmental risks, develop compliance strategies, and lead environmental initiatives that support operational excellence and regulatory compliance.

This position requires a highly experienced environmental professional with extensive knowledge of Federal and California oil and gas environmental regulations, permitting, and compliance programs. The successful candidate must be capable of independently managing complex environmental issues, leading regulatory interactions, and providing guidance during emergency response and project development activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the primary environmental advisor for assigned onshore and offshore oil and gas operations
  • Lead environmental compliance efforts to ensure adherence with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental laws, regulations, permits, and company standards
  • Interpret complex environmental regulations and provide guidance to operations and leadership regarding compliance obligations and environmental risk management
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve environmental management systems, policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Prepare, review, and submit environmental reports, permit applications, compliance documentation, and regulatory filings to internal leadership and government agencies
  • Coordinate and manage environmental permitting activities for facility modifications, maintenance projects, and capital projects
  • Conduct environmental compliance inspections, field audits, and site assessments to evaluate regulatory compliance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Lead investigations of environmental incidents, permit deviations, spills, releases, and non-compliance events, including root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions
  • Oversee environmental monitoring programs related to land use, pipeline safety water quality, stormwater, wastewater, waste management, hazardous materials, and pollution prevention
  • Evaluate environmental data and trends to identify compliance risks and recommend practical mitigation strategies
  • Coordinate environmental contractors and consultants supporting permitting, monitoring, remediation, and compliance activities
  • Serve as a primary point of contact during environmental inspections and audits conducted by regulatory agencies
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies
  • Provide environmental support during project planning, engineering design reviews, construction activities, and operational changes
  • Develop and deliver environmental training programs to employees and contractors to promote environmental awareness and regulatory compliance
  • Track environmental performance metrics and prepare management reports identifying compliance trends, key performance indicators, and improvement opportunities
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to Environmental Advisors and other environmental personnel as needed
  • Support sustainability initiatives, pollution prevention programs, and continuous improvement efforts across company operations
  • Participate in emergency response activities as required
  • Must work onsite daily in Goleta, California
  • Perform other duties as assigned

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent combination of education and extensive environmental compliance experience will be considered
  • Minimum 15 years of progressively responsible environmental compliance experience within the oil and gas, energy, or other highly regulated industrial industry
  • Experience leading environmental audits and regulatory inspections
  • Experience managing environmental consultants and contractor services
  • Extensive knowledge of Federal, California and Santa Barbara County environmental regulations and permitting requirements, including experience working with agencies such as:
    • Department of Transportation, Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB), Regional Water Quality Control Boards (RWQCB),, California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), California Coastal Commission, California Geologic Energy Management Division (CalGEM), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Santa Barbara County Planning and Development Department.
  • Strong working knowledge of environmental regulations including, but not limited to:
  • PHMSA Regulations, California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), Clean Air Act , Clean Water Act , SPCC Regulations , RCRA, CERCLA, EPCRA, Hazardous Waste Management, Stormwater Programs, Air Permitting, Wastewater Compliance and local land use codes and policies.
  • Demonstrated experience managing environmental permitting, regulatory reporting, inspections, and compliance programs
  • Experience supporting both offshore and onshore oil and gas operations is highly preferred
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical environmental requirements to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships across multiple departments and regulatory agencies
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and environmental reporting systems
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to travel to field locations as needed

PAY INFORMATION: Annual Salary Pay Range: $225k - $250k

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The position requires manual dexterity to handle documents and operate office equipment such as printers, shredders, and computers. Also required is performing repetitive motions and extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking for varying lengths of time. The position requires interacting and communicating professionally with others via speaking, hearing, and writing; learning new tasks, processes, and concepts; thinking to solve problems; concentrating on required tasks; distinguishing color and depth perception; and reading data, figures, electronic and hard copy documents.

Visual and manual dexterity is extremely important for this position. The incumbent will be subject to performing sedentary to light work, exerting up to 10-20 pounds of force occasionally, or constantly lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects, reaching overhead for items, stooping, bending, and twisting while working. Other physical activities include the ability to utilize fingers to feel and grasp objects or work devices as needed and manual dexterity in the use of the hands, seeing, talking, hearing, performing repetitive motions, and standing for long periods of time.

The position requires walking or traversing over and across uneven terrain, accessing areas outdoors and on or around equipment, over or around obstacles or structures such as pipes, low rails, and walls, stooping or bending to reach certain locations, climbing stairs or ladders, and exposure to outside weather conditions.

The position requires facility inspections, which require wearing a respirator and personal protection equipment such as gloves, gas masks, suits, etc., with an average weight of 10-25 pounds.
