Position Summary
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Field Data Technician responsible for inspecting, collecting detailed and accurate data on power utility and telecommunication poles within assigned project areas in the state of Illinois. This includes measuring pole and attachment heights, documenting midspans, hammer, probe and visual test poles and identifying all equipment present on each pole. This role plays a critical part in supporting engineering and design teams by ensuring high-quality field data is captured and reported.
Key Responsibilities
- Measure and record pole heights and all attachment heights, including midspans
- Identify and document all equipment present on utility poles
- Collect and input field data using standardized forms and GPS/mapping tools
- Ensure all collected data meets company accuracy, design and quality control standards
- Collaborate with design teams to support accurate engineering and project planning
- Maintain compliance with company safety policies and industry regulations
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrains
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to pass a drug test and background check
- Willingness to travel as required for fieldwork including overnight stay
- Ability to work outdoors in all seasons and environmental conditions
Preferred Qualifications
- 1–3 years of experience in power distribution or related field
- Electrical engineering background or coursework (not required)
- Familiarity with utility infrastructure or field data collection processes
- Experience in utilizing field equipment and software's such as Katapult Pro, Ike GPS and inspecting/testing
