In this vital role, you will assist with daily transportation and yard operations by managing equipment, maintaining compliance records, assisting drivers, and coordinating with maintenance. This role ensures that all tools, vehicles, and systems are properly maintained and operational in order to support efficient and safe logistics operations. Duties
- Allocate, track, and maintain inventory of transportation equipment including electric pallet jacks, manual jacks, and hand trucks
- Schedule repairs for all equipment and perform minor repairs (e.g., hand trucks) as needed
- Ensure all electric pallet jack batteries are properly charged and ready for use
- Manage and control inventory of all Zebra scanners, including assignment and tracking
- Monitor, edit, and maintain Hours of Service (HOS) records for all drivers
- Contact drivers to communicate and apply 2-hour HOS extensions when applicable
- Ensure all drivers are properly logged out of company-issued applications on scanners at the end of each shift
- Report on truck and equipment maintenance issues to the Maintenance Coordinator
- Assist with moving trucks to and from repair facilities as needed
- Update and maintain truck paperwork and documentation
- Assist with general yard operations, including supporting the yard switcher and snow removal when necessary
- Troubleshoot basic Samsara hardware and device-related issues
- Compile and organize daily fuel purchase data for entry into Samsara for IFTA reporting
- Assist in completing driver accident and injury reports
- Support adherence to company safety policies and procedures
- Support fleet management activities by monitoring vehicle status, maintenance schedules, and driver assignments
- Assist in analyzing transportation data to identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and cost savings
Skills
- Proficiency with transportation management systems
- Strong analysis skills for reviewing logistics data, freight movements, and supply chain performance metrics
- Experience with GPS devices, GIS mapping tools, and routing software for transportation planning
- Excellent communication skills for coordinating dispatching activities and maintaining clear records
- Ability to perform data entry accurately
- Familiarity with shipping & receiving procedures, freight documentation, and fleet management practices
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism on multi-line phones
- Ability to multitaks and work in a fast-paced environment
