Rye Country Day School is seeking an Associate Director of Content & Storytelling beginning May 2026. This is a full-time 12-month onsite position reporting to the Director of Institutional Publications & Communications.

The Associate Director of Content & Storytelling is responsible for shaping and producing compelling, mission-aligned content that reflects the depth, distinction, and daily life of the institution. This role ensures a consistent, engaging narrative across all platforms, including web, print, email, and social media, playing a central role in advancing institutional priorities through high-quality storytelling. This is an opportunity for a creative and strategic storyteller to shape the voice of a dynamic independent school and play a central role in how its story is told to the broader community.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the comprehensive editorial calendar in alignment with the School’s strategic priorities and in support of admissions, advancement, and overall positioning
  • Coordinate and create content for annual print publications (Fall Newsletter, Winter Newsletter, Spring Bulletin, and Annual Report)
  • Identify, shape, and elevate stories that reflect academic excellence, student life, faculty impact, and community values 
  • Write and produce daily stories for the website/social media
  • Conduct interviews with students, faculty, administrators, alumni, and parents, and take photographs as needed
  • Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications creative team to ensure stories have compelling visual elements
  • Develop feature stories, profiles, and long-form content in support of major initiatives
  • Edit, proofread, and refine content from colleagues and contributors across departments to maintain a clear, consistent institutional voice across all communications
  • Ensure all content aligns with brand standards, tone, and messaging priorities
  • Adapt content for multiple platforms, including web, email, and social media
  • Ensure content is optimized for engagement and readability across channels (digital and print)
  • Complete other multimedia and design projects as assigned by the Director of Institutional Communications & Publications and Senior Associate Director of Marketing & Communications

Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in marketing, communications, digital media, or a related field
  • Familiarity with independent schools or mission-driven organizations preferred
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling ability
  • Skilled photographer with experience using professional equipment (mirrorless cameras, DSLR) and who has an eye for proper composition, lighting, and shooting techniques 
  • Experience with design to create brand-aligned materials (Canva preferred, understanding of basic editing a plus)
  • Demonstrated experience producing content across web, print, email, and social platforms
  • Strong editorial judgment and ability to identify compelling narratives
  • Superior attention to detail, including experience with quality assurance protocols
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Positive, flexible, and collaborative approach to teamwork
  • Excellent collaboration and relationship-building skills

Salary Range: $80,000-$90,000 based on experience
