Located in Suffolk, Virginia, Ryan Infrastructure Services is a leading maintenance, repair, site work and specialty construction contractor serving large blue-chip industrial and government customers in the mid-Atlantic region. The Company offers a turnkey suite of solutions including facilities maintenance/repair, environmental remediation, and marine services for its regional customer base. Ryan Infrastructure is currently seeking an experienced Corporate Safety Director. This role is responsible for the overall Safety of the workforce and compliance with Company, Local, State and Federal guidelines. The Corporate Safety Director works closely with Operations and Human Resources. They will take the lead and make the department their own while being responsible for training and encouraging our culture of safety within the company and on job sites. This position will also require a director who keeps abreast of changes in the safety industry requirements including OSHA and is able to effectively communicate those changes and updates to senior management and employees.

Essential Job Duties Include:

  • Conduct or coordinate worker training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, use of safety equipment, safe work practices, etc.
  • Work with the Company’s clients to ensure the safety of the company’s employees on the job site.
  • Perform safety audits and inspections of facilities, job sites, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure safety regulation compliance. Works with supervisors and managers to direct corrective preventative measures.
  • Developing or implementing programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses.
  • Analyzing or evaluating new and existing jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards.
  • Designing or modifying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems to control or eliminate hazards.
  • File, log, and keep track of all Worker's Comp claims, training logs and all related reporting aspects of safety.
  • Investigate and report any accidents or near misses to determine root cause and install preventive measures and insurance claims involving theft, property damage, vehicle accidents.
  • Provide technical advice and mentoring to employees on safety initiatives and necessary changes.
  • Identify and develop best practices and safety policies that lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks, raise safety awareness, improve safe work practices, and become a part of operational policies.
  • Compile, analyze and interpret accident statistical data and communicate such information.
  • Develop, maintain, and update safety manual and various safety related correspondences.

  • Maintain programs such as SDS/HazComm, Confined Space, Fall Protection, and all related programs related to safety and construction.
  • Review contracts to assure proper adherence to safety policies and procedures.
  • Head the Random Drug Testing program.
  • Other safetyrelated projects as required.

Education and/or Experience Qualifications:

  • A minimum of five years of progressive Construction or other related field safety experience
  • Knowledge of Workers Comp filing, tracking, exc.
  • High School Diploma but bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations; OSHA 30hour certification
  • OSHA 10 & 30 Trainer Certified a plus
  • Valid Driver's License

Salary Range: $90,000 - $110,000 Annually (Based on qualifications and experience)
