Job Overview
Performs clerical and receptionist functions for the unit, in accordance with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital policies and procedures, answers inquiries of a general nature by nursing staff, physicians, patients and families, and carries out principles of positive guest relations,
Essential Functions
Performs the following receptionist functions for the nursing unit in accordance with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital policies and procedures:
Answering the telephone within 4 rings professionally, Answering the call bell via intercom system professionally, activating the paging system for both routine and emergency use, coordinating patient admissions, transfers and discharges with other departments, scanning discharge documents, and carries out the principles of positive guest relations
Creates a calm, business like atmosphere that promotes productivity,
Consistently supports the philosophy of service excellence of the organization,
Maintains a clean, safe and functional work area in the Nursing Station,
Greets all customers when entering the unit, handles their inquiries, and directs them to the appropriate person and/or area,
Consistently initiates a positive communication with the patients, family members, nurses and physicians in a courteous manner,
Greets Visitors and callers, using a calm and friendly approach when communicating with others,
Takes messages, answers routine questions, and transfers call to appropriate areas and individuals,
Demonstrates the ability to perform clerical functions required on the nursing unit in accordance with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital policies and procedures by competently utilizing EPIC
Demonstrates the ability to accept and schedule perioperative appointments for patients, photocopy medical records per policy and maintain a log of the unit's activity
Collaborate with Bed management for bed needs of the day and day after
Maintain Unit Logs and Staff files
Print and communicate on call schedules with the nursing office
Handwritten information is readable when assessed

Follows Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital policies and procedures related to dress code, reporting to work on time, adhering to mandatory annual training requirements, attending Unit Clerk meetings, use of appropriate ID badge, and patient confidentiality
