Job Overview:

The Unit Secretary coordinates activities at the nursing station. Interacts effectively with physicians. OR leadership and team members. Answers telephone and maintains neat, orderly environment. Excellent communication skills, time management and problem solving skills.

Qualifications:

Preferred:

• High school diploma
• Clerical experience
• Medical terminology
• Excellent communication skills, time management and problem-solving skills
• Computer skills, Word, Power Point and Excel

Scheduling Requirements:

• Evening Shift
• Full-Time

Essential Functions:

• Under the direction of the Operating Room director and assistant director enters surgical case data into EPIC, answers telephones, communicates between all periop departments, and monitors the timeliness of the OR schedule
• Assists as directed with PI activities such as data collection
• Demonstrates the ability to organize and prioritize assigned workload
• Keep unit supplies with all necessary stationery and other supplies stocked at all times
• Order and maintain an adequate number of supplies according to par
• Schedules OR cases and communicates needs to OR leadership
• Posts important memos and maintains and arranges unit bulletin board
• Assists charge nurse with monitoring of OR schedule and alerts leadership of delays or schedule changes
• Assists as directed with PI activities such as data collection
• Demonstrates proficiency in following emergency notification procedures per policy
• Demonstrates initiative and motivation in role; proactively addresses issues; identifies and resolves problems in an appropriate manner
• Participates in unit secretary workgroups and in-services; makes positive contributions
• Work collaboratively with all healthcare professionals
• Demonstrates telephone courtesy and initiative in addressing concerns of caller
• Reflects commitment to building a supportive work environment and maintains a positive attitude at the work place and toward the job.
