The position is rotation-based and field-focused, supporting exploration operations in remote Arctic/Alaska environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical environmental resource to the Exploration team, providing guidance and support to field personnel.
- Coordinate and implement programs to validate compliance with environmental regulations related to:
- Waste disposal and material reuse
- Waste minimization
- Wildlife protection and interactions
- Land use and land disturbance
- Water quality and water use
- Spill prevention, reporting, and response
- Other field environmental issues as required
- Identify environmental risks and issues, develop mitigation strategies, and communicate effectively with Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) and field leadership.
- Conduct onsite audits, inspections, and site visits to assess field activities and validate environmental compliance.
- Represent the client/operator during agency inspections, maintaining professional working relationships with local, state, and federal agency personnel.
- Support permitting, field monitoring, and study design related to spills, waste, water, land, and wildlife as needed.
- Assist with environmental incident reporting, investigation, and follow-up, including documentation and corrective action tracking.
- Maintain accurate records, logs, and reports to support regulatory compliance and internal HSE management systems.
- 3 years of experience in Alaska environmental compliance, including some combination of:
- Spills and spill response
- Waste management and minimization
- Water use and water quality
- Drinking water systems
- Land issues and remediation
- Wildlife considerations and field monitoring/study design
- Direct experience supporting field operations (oil and gas, exploration, remote camps, or similar).
- Working knowledge of applicable state and federal environmental regulations and permitting requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct field inspections, audits, and compliance assessments.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with field personnel, HSE staff, and regulatory agencies.
- Ability to work safely and effectively in remote, harsh Arctic/Alaska environments on a rotational schedule.
- Experience supporting oil and gas exploration, seismic, or drilling operations in Alaska.
- Previous experience representing an operator or client during regulatory/agency inspections.
- Background in environmental science, engineering, biology, or related field.
- Familiarity with spill prevention and response planning, waste profiles, and environmental monitoring programs.
- Rotation-based role: 14 days on / 14 days off, 12-hour days.
- Must be able to work in extreme cold, remote locations, and camp-style environments.
- Travel to and from field locations as required by operations.
