Job Goals: To enable students to develop communication skills needed to achieve their maximum academic and social potential.

 

Qualifications: 

  1. As set by the state certification authorities and the American Speech and Hearing Association
  2. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

 

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to:  Director of Special Education and Principal(s)

 

Background Check Required: (Ala. Code §§ 16-22A-5) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Background checks may not be more than ten (10) years old.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Demonstrated knowledge of student behavior in his/her area of exceptionality as well as policies and procedures relevant to program implementation and participation.
  2. Knowledge to interpret assessment data, group students and develop methodologies and strategies conducive to individualized instructional needs.
  3. Effective skills in oral and written communication to fulfill IEP requirements and communicate to students, parents, support agencies and other faculty and staff.
  4. Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, high-intensive work environment.

Essential Functions:

  1. Conducts screening to identify students with communicative disorders.
  2. Evaluates and diagnoses speech and language disorders.
  3. Develops and implements individualized education plans to meet the unique needs of each student receiving therapy service.
  4. Develops appropriate service delivery models to meet the needs of students.
  5. Refers students to other professional and community agencies.
  6. Consults with classroom teachers and other school personnel to facilitate carry-over of therapy gains into classroom activities.
  7. Provides information, support, and guidance to parents/guardians and families.
  8. Assists teachers in the identification of children with communicative disorders.
  9. Maintains records for students evaluated and receiving services.
  10. Informs administrators and other members of the educational team of program developments and student progress.
  11. Engages in personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership.
  12. Coordinates services with other school programs.
  13. Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication.
  14. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policy, and state and federal rules and regulations.
  15. Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Madison City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Madison City Schools.
  • Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non-probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30.

Expected Employment: 187 days (full year)

Evaluation:  According to established Board policies and administrative procedures and guidelines.

 

Salary: According to Madison City Schools Salary Schedule (Salary based on employment for complete year)
