Permanent Substitute

Qualifications:

1. Must hold a valid Alabama Teacher's Certificate

or

1. Must hold a valid Alabama Substitute Teacher's License
2. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Background Check Required: (Ala. Code §§16-22A-5 ) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  Background checks must not be more than 10 years old. A new background check is required for anyone new to Madison City Schools, regardless of the recency of the ABI and FBI background checks.

Staff must promptly report suspected child abuse or neglect to law enforcement authorities as required by Alabama law. Compliance with these expectations is a condition of employment.

 Essential Functions:

1. Point of contact for teachers who will be absent
2. Coordinate substitute activities at the school
3. Perform as a substitute teacher when necessary
4. Perform other instructional task when not required to substitute
5. Implement lesson plans of absent teachers
6. Call other substitutes teachers to work
7. Provide assignments relayed by teacher to substitute teachers
8. Inform principal of all absences of teachers
9. Maintain proper learning environment in classroom
10. Ensure instructional activities are carried out by all substitute personnel
11. Exhibit positive human relations skills

•  This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Madison City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Madison City Schools.

• Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non-probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30.

Expected Employment: 182 days/8 hrs. (full year)

Evaluation: According to established Board policies and administrative procedures and guidelines.

Salary: According to Madison City Schools Salary Schedule (Salary based on employment for complete year).  Up to 10 years experience will be counted for new employees who provide documentation of full-time experience in the area of concentration.
